    Location of Skardu

    Skardu, capital of Baltistan is located 2.438 KMabove sea level in the surroundings of the greatpeaks of the Karakorams.Baltistan, also known as Baltiyul in local (Balti)language, is a region in Pakistan to the north of Kashmir, bordering The Gilgit valley and theKohistan district. It is situated in the Karakorammountains just to the south of K2, the world'ssecond highest mountain.

    What to see?

    Kharpocho Fort: Skardu has an ancient Fortknown as Kharpocho Fort (King of Forts)situated on a hill overlooking the town. It wasconstructed by Ali Sher Khan Anchan, whoruled over Baltistan till the end of the 16thcentury.

    Shigar Valley: Shigar valleys gentle, irrigatedslopes are filled with terraces of wheat, maizeand barley. Its orchards of apricots, mulberries,peaches, apples and nuts are unique toBaltistan.

    Shangrila Lake & Hotel

    The colourful Shangrila isat a distance of about 30km from Skardu.Shangrila wasestablished in 1983. Itwas named " heaven onearth " because of itsspectacular beauty,andbreathtaking view andpeaceful atmosphere.

    K2K2, locally known by the name of "Chogo Ree", which

    means "The Great Mountain". Standing at 8,611metres (28,251 feet), K2 is second only to MountEverest in terms of height above sea level. K2 lies inBaltistan, the northern region of Pakistan.

    With no simple routes, K2 is known as the finest andmost dangerous mountain in the world. K-2, is 23 kmaway from Skardu via jeep road

    Sadpara Lake About 8 km (5miles) north of Skardu and 20 minutesby jeep lays Sadpara Lake, surrounded by glacial

    mountains, which are mirrored in its crystal clear waters. The lake has a fairytale island in the middle,which can be reached by country boats that one canrow. This lake also abounds in fish and is considered

    ideal for fishing.

    Kachura Lake About 32 km (20 miles) from Skardu and 2

    hours by jeep lies the peaceful deep KachuraLake, teeming with brown trout. During springmany exotic and colourful flowers adorn itsbanks, while peach, apricot and apple trees areladen with blossoms in April.
