• Please call front office when your child is going to be absence
• Doctor and dentist appoints in afternoon-main instruction in mornings.
• Need to bring proof of appointment back to school

Attendance
Expectations
Homework: 30 – 45 minutes most nights not including independent reading.
Binder Reminder: homework is written in each day and needs to be signed by parent each night.
Absences: Work is due one day after the absence.
Homework
Every afternoon a student copies the homework assignments into their binder reminder. Copy in Teacher’s binder
If a student leaves school early or misses part of the assignment, it is their responsibility to get the assignment from the homework binder.
Each student will choose a homework buddy.
Classroom Organization
Class Dojo/Behavior Log
Students place all papers into a 3-ring binder.
There should not be any loose papers in the binder.
Cubbies will be kept tidy.
5th Grade CURRICULUM
Reading: Using Fiction and Non-Fiction
Writing: Expository, Opinion, and Narrative.
Grammar: Sentence Structure, Verbs, Prepositions,
Math: Place Value, Order of Operations, Fractions, Decimals, Geometry, Measurement Conversion, Volume, Graphing
Science: Weather, Matter, Elements and Solar Systems.
Social studies: Early American History(Explorers-Western Expansion). Political, Social, Economic and Cultural Aspects
Common CoreLanguage Arts — Students will be expected to multiple read passages and use explicit details to explain and infer their understanding of both fiction and non-fiction texts.
Math-- importance is on the process of learning the concepts. Speaking and writing will be stressed. Students will be asked to explain their thinking in multiple ways.
Writing-- more daily writing across the curriculum. We will focus our assessments on informational, opinion, and narrative.
Common Core continuedReading--Our district focus is on increasing student’s understanding of more complex
text through their reading levels.

Grading
I will drop the lowest quiz grade for each subject in each trimester.
Spelling and grammar are graded within writing assignments.
Accelerated Reader is incorporated into the reading grade.
90%-100% - 4-Exceeding Standard
89%-75% - 3 – Meeting Standard
74%-60% - 2 – Approaching Standard
59% and below – 1- Emerging to Standard
