Today we are going to focus our attention on My Mastery Network.

My Matery Network teaches to the core concepts in math • NCTM calls the core concepts the Focal Points • Courses - Addition - Subtraction - Multiplication - Division - Tables, Graphs & Statistics - Fractions - Decimals & Percents - Equations, Roots & Exponents • Geometry and Ratios & Word • Problem Strategies will be available within the next two years • Note the Proof! MathMastery programs builds mathematical competency for all students, bolstered by the pedagogical understanding that not every student learns at the same rate or acquires concepts and skills at the same time. (NCTM criteria) • Lesson 1 is Getting Started • Division, Lesson 1 starts with division number families. • The last lesson in most courses is You’re a Problem Solver! Students apply problem-solving strategies taught throughout the course. • Concepts are taught as comprehensive strands with a Problem Solving Focus. • Each course offers a placement test that can be used to see if students have the prerequisite skills for the course. Reteaching is identified if necessary. We want to make certain that students are ready for new content and that they are not going to fail with new content. • Note that there is a pretest and a posttest for measuring student performance before and after each course. • Also, there is a mid point and end of course test with reteaching identified if mastery is not met. • Teachers may choose to use or not use the testing options. The program is flexible! • The Number Family strategy is the focus of four courses: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division

Let’s look at lesson 4 in Division Concept: short division • Students have already been introduced to division. • First students watch a video in which the concept of short division is presented. ª The course follows an effective teaching format: presentation, guided practice, independent work. • During the video, the presentation and guided practice sections the students are brought to an understanding of the concept. After the video students practice on their own during independent work. • Note you can pause the video at any time by clicking the video pause button. • Many teachers kick start a group lesson with the video and then have students work the problems on their own. The program is flexible! • In the upper right corner of the screen is a toggle switch for Spanish. Teachers, parents and students can toggle from English to Spanish! • This lesson demonstrates the power of the instructional apporoach •With these programs. instruction starts at the very Granular level; Students are taught to figure out if they have to work a one digit or a two digit problem (You can stop the video and click the next button to move to the practice problems at any time)

• The practice problems give students a chance to practice the skill just taught. We always show students how to do a skill the first time it has been introduced in the video. Students are guided to the correct answer with up to three tries to get the problem correct. Students can move forward and backward with the arrow buttons. They cannot go forward without completing the problem! See the scratch pad! This was a recommendation from one of our customers: Orange Unified in CA. Click on the pad and students can work the problem on their scratch pad! This is especially helpful with the word problems. (Note the correct answers appear at the bottom of the screen to help the sales rep get the answers correct! They do not appear on the actual site!) AT the end of each lesson student see a Congratulations page indicating They have finished the lesson. A directions page follows telling students to either stop now or to select their Next lesson.

After the mid point quiz students are shown their progress page for the quiz. If they did not master any of the lesson concepts on the quiz a reteaching icon appears. Students should complete review lessons before moving on.

The student progress page displays the student’s scores on the practice problems and the tests. The progress wheel displays the lessons completed.

The Class Profile displays student performance at a glance! Teachers can view their class and quickly identify students who may need more help.

Teachers can set the color preferences and the performance criteria! They can differentiate the instructional path. Some students may be directed to move through the program lesson by lesson in a directed manner. Whereas others may move around the courses taking the lesson that meets their need each day. The program is flexible!

Our teacher /parent correspondence log is very popular with parents. When teachers assign My Mastery Network as homework parents may want to provide the teacher feedback on the child’s work or teacher’s may want to send Suggestions to parents. This is a great tool Slide 12 and alls liked up top where can MathMastery be used are fine as is. Add Response to Intervention for math as a place where MathMastery can be use! The remaining slides are good to go!

The teacher’s manual is a valuable tool for any teacher! It presents the skills taught in each course, the strategies taught for solving problems, PLUS it includes recommendations for differentiating instruction, cooperative learning, vocabulary teaching and math journaling! Note, on the navigation bar teachers can click to view State correlations to My Mastery Network. If we have not completed the correlations for your state and you need them we will add them to our list and get them posted.

My Mastery Network is backed with scientific evidence documenting its success. The Core Concepts curriculum is the foundation for the courseware. The curriculum is listed on the US Dept of Education’s Programs that Work Guide. • Students in regular and special education classrooms learning with the Core Concepts curriculum out-performed their peers learning on other programs. • Results have been replicated in other settings. You can depend on the programs. They work. Numerous studies compare math textbooks, school reform and effective teaching. They all result in the identification of Direct Instruction (DI) as a curriculum model that works. The MathMastery programs presents the tested strategies from DI in a soft manner! We are thrilled about the release of the Spanish version of My Mastery Network. • Teachers, parents and students can toggle from English to Spanish. • Students in ELL settings and Spanish emersion classrooms will benefit from working with My Mastery Network Spanish. Spanish speaking parents can work with their child at home and be engaged in their child’s learning.

MathMastery DVDs are in Math and Science. • The Math DVDs are a great compliment to My Mastery Network. Teachers can show a DVD to a whole class on a large screen presentation. Students go to their computers and access My Mastery Network lessons for the practice problems and tests. • Math DVDs may be purchased separately or as a bundle with My Mastery Network. When purchased separately, they are packaged with one reproducible student workbook.

The Science DVDs compliment any earth science classroom. • Students learn the core concepts in earth science. Six DVDs make up the Earth Science package. The Earth Science DVDs are invaluable to teachers preparing students for the 8th grade science tests for NCLB. • In a recent study conducted by Carnegie Mellon and the Univ. of Pittsburgh detailed at a science summit sponsored by the U.S. Dept of Ed. found that students taught through direct instruction were more likely to become experts in designing scientific experiments. • The science DVDs give students a strong foundation in earth science and prepare them for success in doing science experiments.
