The Metropolitan area of Lisbon has the population of around 2.822million from 2011, and the city population of Lisbon has around 530,847 in 2012. The data collected from United Nations Data processor. The Metropolitan area of Lisbon is divided into 18 municipalities by the country state law. And the area of the Metropolitan state is 3,015km2. Lisbon is a city in Estremadura, a state of Portugal. The population of Estremadura was around 1.1million in 2014 by the Institute National of Estadstica. The population of Portugal was around 10.46million in the year 2013 by the World Bank. So approx. 26% of the Portugal population lives in the Metropolitan area alone.

All education is regulated by the state, but there are branches of public schools and private schools. In Lisbon, there are several public high schools, but the highest ranking is the Escola Secundria Antnio Damsio. Furthermore, all rules are maintained not by the schools, but by the Portuguese ministry of education. Universities in Portugal are split into private and public as well. Most likely if the private high school that you went to would feature a college program. But in public university, you have a lot more freedom and can take a lot more courses provided by the Ministry,

The commerce square is in the center of the capital. Originally there was the Royal Ribera Palace that stood just adjacent to the statue of King Manuel I. But the palace was destroyed in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. However, after the quake the square was completely remodeled. The urban development along the Tagus River, now led to this being a remarkable landmark. Now the square is a popular tourist destination full of antique shops and pubs.

A historic castle built in the 16th century, and is part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. This castle was built by King John II and now serves as a historic landmark to remind us how the Portuguese helped with marine exploration. This fort was specifically built by the Tagus River to look into the riverbed. This is now a beautiful and remarkable tourist attraction.

The 1755 Lisbon earthquake was an 8.5-9.0 magnitude quake, and happened on November 1 1755, on All Saints day. It caused 10,000 to 100,000 people to lose their lives, and was one of the biggest earthquakes in history.

A pretty nice train station and bus station combined into one building. This is the perfect way of getting around the city.

Transit information

A flat fare on a bus is usually around 1,80 and is paid on board. But a tram is usually around 2 paid on board. A 24-hour day pass is available for 6.50 the first day, and 6 for the days following. You can purchase day passes as many times as you may like, and the ticket is given on a rechargeable card that can be repaid the day after. You can purchase or pre pay passes on the official CP national website.
