The Bringing In of the Light of Christ
WE APPROACH THE ALMIGHTY Greeting and Opening Prayer
Pastor: O God, in your infinite wisdom you have blessed us with the power of your presence in every moment of our lives. You are, indeed, with us always and in all ways. Your endless love unites us where nothing else could bring us together. So, with grateful hearts we come to-gether to praise you. Amen. *Hymn The Church’s One Foundation UMH 545 *Call to Worship
Pastor: We gather in the presence of God’s steadfast and unyielding love. All: Lord, we come seeking your restoration and healing, your wisdom and guidance. Pastor: We gather in the power of the gift of God’s own Spirit. All: Lord, we come to listen to your voice, and we come knowing we will be heard by you. Pastor: We gather, united by God’s grace to worship and pray as the People of God’s kingdom. All: Lord, we come in trust that you are already here, and already ahead of us, leading the way to your Light. *Gloria We Believe in One True God UMH 85
We believe in one true God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
Ever-present help in need, praised by all the heavenly hosts; By whose mighty power alone all is made and wrought and done.
Welcome to FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
We are Christ's people, open and available to everyone, serving God's children everywhere.
July 28, 2013
The Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS AND PRAISE A Morning Prayer Liturgist: Almighty God, we gather in praise and adoration to proclaim your greatness and wondrous love. Creator God, whose love is working in all creation, we praise you! Son of God, who left the safe immunity of the heavenly kingdom to love us into existence, we praise you! Holy Spirit, empowering us to proclaim the good news as God’s people, we praise you! Receive our worship, O God of everything. We stand in awe before the life you example and invite us to live: a life of humble service, of tender compassion, and of deep communion with you. Teach us to pray, O God! Teach us to speak openly and freely with you and to listen for you. By your mighty Spirit lift us out of ourselves and our self-preoccupations to commune with you, pour-ing out our hearts in unending prayer, even as we pray; All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And, forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. A Prayer of Confession Liturgist: Understanding and Compassionate God, forgive us our prayerlessness. How sel-dom we seek your face! How infrequently we enter your presence! How rarely we set aside time to think of you! Our lives are consumed with our own wants and desires leaving scarce little time to recognize your nearness. All: By the power of your unyielding love, forgive us, Lord. Deliver us from the dark cloud of selfishness, and free us to love you and all we meet with undivided hearts. Amen
