FEAST OF ALL SAINTS November 01, 2020 EVERYDAY HEROS When we think about the saints, we think about their heroic deeds and Godlike actions. What we forget is their humanness. The saints had their faults too – just like you and me. So how are we different from the saints? We aren’t. We each have our own heroic deeds to do and Godlike actions to perform each day. They may include cleaning up spilt milk without yelling at the offending child. Or it may be driving without cursing someone who cuts you off in traffic. Or it may be not joining in on some hurtful conversation about a co-worker. Each morning when we wake up, we need to ask God’s forgiveness and then we can start out as saints ready to carry out our heroic deeds for the day. DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE The pandemic has highlighted how vulnerable and interconnected everyone is. If we do not take care of one another, starting with the least, with those who are most impacted, including creation, we cannot heal the world. - Pope Francis, Archbishop Terry Prendergast is supporting a collection for Development and Peace on the weekend of November 14 th & 15 th , 2020. More information to follow, but please keep the needs of the most impacted in your prayers & thoughts.

FEAST OF ALL SAINTS November 01, 2020

EVERYDAY HEROS When we think about the saints, we think about their heroic deeds and Godlike actions. What we forget is their humanness. The saints had their faults too – just like you and me. So how are we different from the saints? We aren’t. We each have our own heroic deeds to do and Godlike actions to perform each day. Sunday Morning Smile A lady goes to her doctor for her annual check-up. The nurse asks her how much she weighs. She tells her, “135 pounds”. But when the nurse weighs her the scale says 160 pounds. Then the nurse asks how tall she is? The lady replies, "5 feet, 5 inches." The nurse then measures her and she is only 5 feet, 3 inches tall. Lastly, the nurse takes her blood pressure and tells her it is quite high. "Of course it's high!" exclaims the lady. "When I came in here I was tall and slender. Now I'm short and fat!"

MILK BAGS NEEDED! The milk bag mat makers are working away at home and are

getting low on milk bags. We would appreciate anyone who could save us CLEAN & DRY milk bags. Drop off at the church or at 386 St. George Street on the porch. If any questions please call Jean at 256-2923. Thanking you in advance.

ST. MARY'S CEMETERY COMMITTEE would like to express their appreciation for the help they received this year in the grooming of the grounds and gardens. Your generous time and effort in achieving this is very much appreciated and we look forward to your help again next year. A special thank you to the Property Maintenance team for the project management/installation of the new Cemetery Sign. It is a beautiful addition to our Cemetery. Thank you to everyone who could make it to the blessing of the sign and for your generous contribution that day.

PRAYER FOR HEALING Heavenly Father, loving and merciful God, we worship and adore You. In faith, we come before You asking for mercy and forgiveness for our sins against You and Your creation. In this time of anxiety and distress, we lift up to You the COVID-19 situation throughout the world. Father, we beg You to halt the spread of this disease and to grant healing and comfort to those afflicted. Please cover everyone with the Precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus and protect all of us, especially those in the medical field, from any infection and harm. Lord Jesus, we beseech You to grace government leaders and medical experts with wisdom and knowledge to combat the spread of COVID-19 and to find a cure for it.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. St. Alphonsus de Liguori

ANGEL TREE 2020 Although the Angel Tree will look very different this year we still want to make every effort to help those in need at Christmas. Due to Covid-19 we have decided the safest way to do this would be to distribute gift cards to the families that need assistance. If you care to purchase gifts cards in any denomination we would appreciate them from any of the following businesses…

Independent Grocer, Rexall Pharmasave, Shoppers Drugmart, Ace Hardware (gas cards also), Levi Home Hardware, Walmart,

Giant Tiger, Dollarama, Subway, Tim Horton’s or any other local business of your choice.

Cards may be dropped off anytime in the collection basket at church on the weekends or at the parish office Tues., Wed. or Thurs. between 9:00am – 3:00pm. Deadline is November 29, 2020, in order to distribute in early December. If it is a problem for you to get a gift card money is acceptable as well and we can purchase the gift cards on your behalf. If donating by cheque please make them payable to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Almonte.

Thank you so much for considering the less fortunate in our community.

Our CWL Membership Drive will be informal this year due to COVID-19. Payments must be identified with your full contact information, (name, address, telephone #, email). They can

be mailed to the church office at 134 Bridge St., Box 1029, dropped in the Mass collection basket or in the office mailbox from Tuesday – Thursday, 9:00am – 3:00pm. The Annual fee is $25.00. Please make cheques payable to “St. Mary’s CWL.” Receipts provided upon request.

Contact Diane Beaubien with any questions at 613-256-2596 or [email protected].
