The Letter Of Jude

Germany Mission CommissioningChase Martinez is leaving to spend ten months in Chemnitz, Saxony. He will serve with International Mission Team, a ministry of the European Methodist Church. Chase, along with youth from Italy, Ireland, and Germany will work at CheckPoint. This a place where children, youth, and families receive help with homework, use their free time in a meaningful way, and encounter the love of God. The mission team will also support projects of the churches and the hospitals.

Believe God Can Do AnythingThe Women’s Ministry Team invites you to attend the “Women of Faith Conference” in Anaheim. It’s on Friday and Saturday, September 13th–14th. The registration cost is $91 plus one night’s lodging. The speaker line-up includes Ann Voskamp and Rick Warren, with musical guest MercyMe. You may register in the Courtyard follow-ing 9:00 worship, and in the 210 lounge fol-lowing 10:30 worship. Scholarship help is available, so feel free to inquire about that.

Opportunity in PalestineKyle VanderHelm will live for one year at a small Christian school in Palestine. He will teach English literature to 7th through 9th graders at the Jerusalem School Beth-lehem. There are commitment cards avail-able for you in the Narthex that you may use to support Kyle through prayer or finan-cial assistance. Mary Line Memorial ServiceFirst Presbyterian Church lost a long-time member and dedicated Christina with the death last Monday night of Mary Line. The memorial service to give thanks for Mary’s life, and to bear witness to the resurrection, is next Saturday morning, August 10th, at

10:00 at the Visalia First Assembly.

DivorceCareDivorceCare, a support group for those en-countering the effects of separation and/or divorce, begins a new 13 week session on Thursday, August 22nd. We meet weekly in the 210 Conference Room from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Share this opportunity with others who could use this support. For more in-formation, call Barbara Simpson 280-9048.

September Mission Trip to GuatemalaFrom September 22nd-28th we will install a Clean Drinking Water Filter System at Iglesia Bethesda School in Tecpan, Gua-temala. This is a school with 350 students in the morning and 300 in the afternoon. The water system will provide all the clean water needs of the school. The cost of the trip is $400, plus airfare. This covers all in-country transportation, lodging, and meals. Not covered are personal snacks & shop-ping. Reserve space by completing an ap-plication and a deposit of $400. Final pay-ment due by September 1st.

Women of First Pres! Please join Woman’s Ministry at a Summer Salad Potluck. The women who partici-pated in “One Thousand Gifts” Bible study enjoyed a great Potluck in July, and we thought we’d do it again. All woman may join us this Wednesday August 7th from 6-8pm in Geneva Hall. Bring one of the fol-lowing: salad, bread or dessert.

Youth Ministry at FPCThe pool party this Wednesday is at a the Ogletree’s will be hosting us at 2122 W Kent St. Youth Beach Day If you are in-terested in going to Avila/Pismo on Thurs-day, August 8th, please RSVP with Zach or Claudia. Sunday morning Bible StudyToday, we will first gather in the sanctuary to commission Chase for Germany. After that we will meet in the youth room to find out how God is able to change things.

Backyard PicnicSummer Time fun happening with First Pres! Come join us on Saturday, August 24th for a Summer Picnic at Bennetts’ Ranch from 10am-2pm! Bring your lunch, swimsuits, towels and a lawn chair. For di-rections, please call the church office.
