What is the Workshop Model?
● 15 minute, skill focused minilesson● 20-30 minute work period
○ Conferences with learners, small group work, all learners working at their level
● 5-10 minute reflection and sharing out

Challenge Based Learning
Challenge Based Learning is a multidisciplinary approach that encourages learners to leverage technology used in their daily lives to solve real-world problems. It is a collaborative and hands on form of learning that encourages learners to ask good questions, develop deep subject area knowledge, identify and solve challenges, take action and share their experience. It is very aligned with the UbD model of planning.
Assessments/Report Cards

Assessments● Forms of assessments include: observations,
portfolios, goal setting, rubrics, journals, presentations, performance tasks, etc.
Homework Practices
● Nightly Reading Log and Math Homework Mon. - Thurs.
● Math homework will reflect learning for the week
Technology ● All learners are provided Digital Citizenship Lessons
that are revisited throughout the year
● 4th-5th: 1:1 iPads
● K-3rd: Shared carts with MacBook Airs and iPads
● Technology does not replace the teacher. It supports the learning that is happening!
Conferences● Minimum of 2 parent conferences a year
○ Parents and learners meet with designer○ Review performance and discuss goals
● Fall Conference Date: October 9th

Volunteering● We WANT you inside Richard J. Lee Elementary!
● Submit a criminal background check EACH school year before volunteering on campus
● Check in through the office
● Must wear a visitor's pass
Field Trips● Minimum of two field experiences
○ One house, one grade
● Must be connected to curriculum
● PTO will help pay for transportation for the house field trip
● We want parents to chaperone!
After School Opportunities● Combination of free and “for-pay” experiences

Arrival / Dismissal● Map
● Crosswalks are open after drop off or pick up so that cars can unload learners
● No cell phones
● Only turn RIGHT into and out of our school during school hours
Tardies● Tardy Bell @ 7:50
● Learner should be in their seats by this time - not walking in the door
● Excessive tardies will be handled by the office
● Bus riders will not be marked tardy if the bus arrives late to school
Absences● Absences are unexcused until you turn in a handwritten note to the teacher
(must be within 3 days)
● Work will be provided when the learner returns to school, not prior to the absence
● Learners have one day for every day they are absent to make up work
● Planned travel should occur outside of the academic calendar year

Celebrations● Two class parties a year (Winter & Valentine)
● Birthdays○ Pass out snacks during last 5 minutes of lunch ○ There must be enough for the whole class (not
house)○ If distributing invitations at school, all
classmates must receive one
Snacks● Healthy snacks only
● Examples:○ fruit○ vegetables○ granola bars○ crackers
