What’s New in 2015-2016?• Hollywood High School succeeded in earning a 6-year WASC

accreditation last year• Hollywood test scores, grad rates and attendance remain near the

top of the west• Mr. Carmicle recognized in Washington, DC• HHS SAS Teachers are working on the “Think Like an Expert.

Become an Expert” program with 9th graders to increase student accomplishment and help students achieve their dreams.

Math DepartmentThe math department has been working hard the last three years to prepare students for the new Common Core curriculum and to make sure they are college and career ready upon graduation. New SpringBoard textbooks from the College Board aligned to the Common Core are now being used. Students will have online access to the books soon.

Math DepartmentAdditional Notes/Keys to Success

• Please monitor student grades and assignments on a regular basis. (Engrade)

• There is always homework to be done to improve math scores even if a specific assignment is not due the next day.

• KhanAcademy.org provides video tutorials and practice exercises for students who are struggling as well as for students who want to go beyond the assignment and work ahead.

• In person tutoring is available from teachers during non-class time, by LACER tutors after school and by student tutors at lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays

• Invest in your student’s success: graph paper, rulers, scientific calculators or graphing calculators. There are a lot of phone resources/apps like Desmos and graphing calculators, but these will not be allowed on tests.
