Supervised Agricultural Experience

• The purpose of the SAE is to gain work experience in agriculture and build life skills.

• SAE is a project completed outside of class time that deals with any division of agriculture:– Plants– Animals– Agriculture business– Agriculture based science experiments

Unit A: LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE

• Understand leadership opportunities in animal science. – Understand organizations available for students in

animal science. – Understand parliamentary procedure abilities and

public speaking skills. • Understand careers in the animal science

industry.– Remember animal science careers.– Understand the importance of SAE to work based

learning.

Unit B: ANIMAL EVALUATION

• Remember terminology relevant to animal agriculture.– Recall animal breed and sex terminology.– Recall retail and wholesale cuts of meat.

• Understand agriculture animals– Classify traits for selection of animals.– Understand quality features of beef, pork and

poultry.

Unit C: ANIMAL AGRICULTURE & MANAGEMENT

• Understand the impact of animal agriculture.– Explain the economic impact of animal

agriculture.– Understand the process for producing, breeding &

marketing agriculture animals.• Understand animal management.– Understand animal husbandry. – Classify animal and financial records.

Unit D: ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY

• Understand animal digestion.– Classify animal feeds. – Understand the digestive process.
