WELCOME TO "A NIGHT OUT"

We’re thrilled to welcome you to the 2018 Spring Auction, the Bronx Science PA’s biggest fundraising

event! Your support of the auction makes a tremendous difference in our children’s lives. Truly, so much

of what our children love about Bronx Science would not be possible without PA donations. The dollars

we raise help pay for technology in our classrooms, materials for science labs, Guidance and College

Office events, uniforms for our 44 athletic teams, advisors for the 90-plus student clubs, theater and arts

programs, and so much more! Our 2018 online auction raised a record-breaking $25,400 (35% higher

than last year), so let’s keep the momentum going this Thursday night on the Upper West Side.

The Spring Auction is the culmination of many hours of hard work by our wonderful Auction Team,

expertly led by Betsy Newberry and Dawn Tolan-Schmall. Not every school is lucky enough to have an

auction team that is devoted, collegial, super organized, and truly excellent at what they do! This year,

we’d especially like to thank the team’s senior parents, Betsy Newberry and Marcia Parness. This is their

last Bronx Science auction, and they will be sorely missed. Their time and talent have been invaluable

assets to the PA.

We’d like to give an extra special acknowledgment to Linda DeSabato and VALLO Transportation LTD.,

who underwrote a large part of this event. Linda has been a consistently generous donor, not just at the

auction but over the course of the entire school year. As many of you know, VALLO provides free bus

transportation to every PA meeting—a service for which we are deeply grateful.

We also extend our warmest thanks to our dedicated principal Dr. Jean Donahue, our fabulous parent

coordinator Cindy Golan, and the entire Bronx Science faculty and staff for always welcoming parent

involvement and for working hard every day to help our children excel.

And last, but certainly not least, thanks to all of you for cheerfully supporting Bronx Science. Let’s enjoy

“A Night Out” and bid high and bid often! We look forward to celebrating with you!

Appreciatively,

Elizabeth Langwith and Monica Toriello

Co-Presidents, Parents’ Association

AUCTION RULES OF PLAY

Check-in and Registration for Express Check-out When you arrive, register at the check-in table where you will receive your bidder number/paddle for the evening. We respectfully ask that you register for Express Check-out, which will speed up the check-out process at the end of the event. Express Check-out is quick and easy, but you must have a credit card to take advantage of this time-saving system. To register for Express Check-out you must swipe your credit card at the terminal. Your credit card information is then assigned to your bidder number. Your credit card will be charged only if you have won or purchased something.

Paddle Numbers: Each person or couple receives a bidder number on a paddle. Use that number when bidding in the Silent Auction and the Live Auction. Holding up your paddle with the bidder number facing forward will be the only accepted method of bidding in the Live Auction. Please write neatly in the Silent Auction.

Silent Auction Guidelines Write your paddle number and the amount of the bid on the bid sheet for each item. The minimum starting bid is listed on the bid sheet along with bidding increments. An announcement will be made prior to the close of the Silent Auction. The highest bid at the proper increase level at closing time constitutes the winning bid. Winners will be informed at Check-out.

Guaranteed Bids: Some items will have a guaranteed bid price at the bottom of the page. If you see something that you MUST have, it can be yours instantly by signing the Guaranteed Bid line, which sets a price over the stated value of the item. This takes the item off the auction block and it is YOURS!

Live Auction Guidelines Raising your paddle and being recognized by the Auctioneer enters a bid. The Auctioneer may specify minimum prices at the beginning of the bidding. The Auctioneer may specify a minimum raise at any time during

Page 7: WELCOME TO A NIGHT OUT ·  · 2018-05-15Betsy Newberry and Dawn Tolan-Schmall Steering Committee Aimee Felton Freedman, Alyson Hyde, Shazzia Khan, Ann Loeb, Marcia Parness, Michele

the bidding. The highest bidder (as recognized by the Auctioneer) shall be the purchaser. In the event of a dispute, the Auctioneer shall have the sole and final authority to determine a successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the item. On the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel, title to the item will pass to the winning bidder, who then assumes full risk and responsibility

Check-out Proceed to Check-out to pick up your receipt. Things will go faster if you have already swiped your credit card at Check-in at the start of the evening. Once payment is confirmed, proceed to Item Pick Up area to retrieve your prizes. Visa, MasterCard, and Amex are accepted. Please Remember: Be patient with Check-out. This is a volunteer-run event! If you are unable to stay for Check-out, please ask a friend to check-out and bring your items home for you.

The Rules All sales are final and subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the donor. Unless a specific expiration date is noted, we recommend you contact the donor within one month or use your award within six months. There will be no refunds or exchanges on items, except where specified. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash. All items have been donated to the PA of Bronx High School of Science. Purchasers may not ask for refunds or exchanges from donors. Unless otherwise stated, gift certificates do not include tax, gratuities, or cash back. Please thank the donor when you use the certificate. We rely on the goodwill of donors to make the auction a success each year and will be contacting them again next year. If they have gained a new customer, they’re more likely to give again.

Tax Policy: The IRS states that winning an auction bid qualifies as a deductible gift only to the extent that the bid exceeds the fair market value of any consideration received. By participating in this auction, each bidder recognizes and agrees that neither Parents’ Association of Bronx High School of Science nor anyone who assists in the conduct of this auction shall be liable for any occurrences resulting from the use of auctioned items and services.
