WRITING – MR. JAMESEXPECTATIONS

Behavior problems

I am warning students first of bad behavior, and putting down behavior marks, next I am emailing the parents to help me resolve the issue. We are planning for a few parent/teacher conferences to deal with students who continually disrupt our classes.

Some students are coming to my class and are not prepared at all with their proper writing utensils, paper, or journals. A journal is REQUIRED for my class. Students need to be ready to write in it on any given day.

READING – MR. REGAN1 - The students have demonstrated enthusiasm and a great deal of background knowledge in Greek and Roman Mythology. 2 - We have begun reading The Iliad by Homer.

3 - We have transitioned from reading The Iliad in book form to a photocopied version that will allow students to highlight, take notes, and practice skills they will use in college.

4 - With the permission of administration, all students are being encouraged to listen to different readings of The Iliad on Youtube.

READING – MR. REGANGOALS FOR THE SCHOOL YEARIn Reading, I will use literature such as The Iliad and The Odyssey to teach the 6th Grade about Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry and Drama. We will use classic and contemporary literature to read and discuss the theme, plot, and setting of stories. How characters are portrayed literally and implicitly with idioms and inferences will also be addressed. My expectations for all of the students who enter my class are that they come to class ready to learn and willing to share. We have a wide range of abilities through-out our grade, and I am a firm believer that we will all improve further and faster when we work as a team.

READING – MR. REGANGOALS FOR THE SCHOOL YEARGrades will come from quizzes, tests, projects and class participation. Students will have three days upon return from a missed assessment to makeup it up. Homework and contributing in class will go towards the class participation grade. Any sort of writing that the students will turn in for a grade will be evaluated based on a scoring rubric that has been passed out. Briefly stated, can the students express their ideas in clear, grammatically correct, and logical writing that is supported by details from their text or their notes.
