FOOD PANTRY UPDATE
It's safe to say we couldn't have done it this year without the help of Kristina Findley! For her Eagle Scout Project, Kristina took on ALL aspects of the School Supply Drive: advertising, collecting, counting, sorting, bagging, and distributing. We are so lucky she chose us for her project. Thank you to Kristina and the Findley family for all of their help! And thank you to all who donated to this annual project!
"Thank you to Mrs. Grant, all of the volunteers of the food pantry, all the parishioners of St. Cletus Church, and my Scout Troop 216 who helped make my Eagle Scout Project a success. I ended up making 425 bags of school supplies and passed them out to every family at each Thursday food distribution in August. I am so glad my project could help so many families in my community. I learned a lot taking on this project but most of all I learned how compassionate my church and scout family is to so many in need. Thank you again, I truly have appreciated this opportunity to help others." Kristina Findley

PROGRAMS AT THE WELL
Due to the Coronavirus, The Well’s Fall programs are all on Zoom. We have some wonderful programs lined up. Here are just a few highlights from September:
Sept. 1, 9, 16, 23, 30: “2 Hemisphere Earth Prayer”- A series in honor of The Season of Creation, led by The Well and our friends in Australia. Sept. 21-Nov. 23: “Waking Up White” book study – Racism is a “white problem” and we who are white need to look inside ourselves. Sept. 26: “From Culture War to Revolution of Tenderness” – Pope Francis urges us to seek out new ways of thinking and to deepen our capacity for kinship with those whose worldviews diverge sharply from our own.
Please see our website at www.csjthewell.org/offerings/ to find out about these programs and more.

Religious Education & RCIA
RCIA
In these uncertain times people often search for something deeper and more meaningful. Some desire to learn more about the Catholic Faith, or desire to complete Sacraments on a faith journey that was started when they were a young child. Perhaps your spouse or a close friend is Catholic or you saw something that prompted questions or inspired your interest about becoming Catholic. Maybe you have a child who was never baptized as an infant, and now that they are older you desire them to be baptized and receive the other Sacraments of Initiation. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or Children (RCIC) is the way the Church invites others to explore the teachings and practices of the Catholic faith. If you are interested in joining us this year, or have questions about the program, please contact Fr. Ken Baker ([email protected]) or Barb Campbell ([email protected]). We would be happy to answer questions and get you enrolled in RCIA this year!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION – IT’S NOT TO LATE TO REGISTER!
This coming academic year, Religious Education at St. Cletus will be utilizing a Family Catechesis model at home. We will partner together with our parents to support them in utilizing our new at home curriculum which is downloadable/online, engaging and fun, easy to follow and allows for meaningful interaction within your family and with God.
For students preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation we will have additional online lessons for this sacramental preparation.
It’s not too late to register! Please try to get your registration forms in ASAP so that we have enough time to get the books and other materials ordered and ready for your child! Registration forms can be found online at stcletusparish.com/re/ or you can email Barb Campbell for further information and the forms ([email protected]).
The changes we have been experiencing in our world can be scary, crazy and unsettling. Join us in RE this year as we gather together in our families and with our community virtually to discover how God is with us. Strengthen your relationships within your family and with God this year! Let’s make this an exciting, God-centered time in our lives!

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
Sunday: Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday: Labor Day Tuesday: The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Wednesday: St. Peter Claver Friday: Patriot Day Saturday: The Most Holy Name of Mary; Blessed Virgin Mary
SAINT PETER CLAVER (1581-1654)
September 9 - Nearly two hundred years before the Declaration of Independence proclaimed “that all men are created equal,” two hundred fifty years before the Emancipation Proclamation mandated an end to slavery, three hundred fifty years before Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream,” and four hundred years before the election of an American president boasting African heritage, Peter Claver left his native Spain behind to volunteer for the Jesuit missions in Colombia. There, he was horrified both by slavery as an institution and by the inhuman brutality inflicted upon the slaves. He solemnly vowed to become “the slave of the slaves,” and lived that vow heroically for close to forty years. Not knowing their language, Peter began his ministry among the slaves by using the universal language of practical charity, providing medical care and a tangible though wordless assertion of their human dignity: “We spoke to them not with words but with our hands, kneeling beside them, bathing their faces and bodies, encouraging them with friendly gestures” (see Liturgy of the Hours, Volume 4, p. 2018). Then came evangelization and baptism. Holiness as human wholeness: Peter Claver’s enduring witness. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
