Our Dreams for the Church in 2012(Revelation 22:14-21)
INTRODUCTIONOn the first day of 2012, we have just completed ourreading of the New Testament together. It’s perfect timingto allow our final chapters of the book of Revelation tosurface God’s dream for His Church. From His Word, wedream of a church where:
I. Every person values worship enough to do it weekly (22:16, 17)
II. Every person values Bible study enough to read itdaily and study it with a group regularly (22:18, 19)
III. Every person values serving enough to find andpersevere in their area with excellence for Christ untilHe comes (John 13)
IV. Every person values giving enough to live within theirmeans, tithe to their church and make Jesus Lord overtheir financial world (2 Corinthians 8:7)
V. Every person values relationships enough to becomeand remain a meaningful part of a smaller group whoshare their life together for the sake of Christ
(Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
VI. Every person values sharing their faith enough tolearn to do it, and then do so actively, until the worldknows Christ (Philemon 6)
CONCLUSIONJesus loved the Church and gave Himself up for Her on anold rugged cross. And today we can follow in His steps. What’s your dream for the church in 2012?

Applying Today’s Sermon to Your Life
1. Last week we finished reading through our New Testament. How
has your effort to read your Bible impacted your walk with
Christ? What are your thoughts about the Bible now?
2. Answer True or False:
T F The Bible is a library of 66 books.
T F The Bible was written by almost 40 different writers,
over a period of 1,500 years, but the actual Author is God’s
Holy Spirit.
T F Unfortunately, the Bible is too old to be relevant to
modern life.
T F I don’t make time to read the Bible daily, but I watch TV
several hours each week.
T F Reading through the Bible during 2012-2013 seems like
too much for me.
T F I value worship, but not enough to commit to it weekly.
T F I value Bible study, but not enough to do it with a group.
T F I value serving, but I don’t want to feel tied down.
T F I value giving, but not enough to tithe to my church.
T F I value relationships, but sharing my life is not an option.
T F I value sharing my faith, but I’m not moving out of my
comfort zone, and anyway, that’s why we pay ministers.
T F I am committed to reading through the Bible with our
church family during 2012-2013.
3. List all the reasons Christians give for not reading their Bible
every day. Make a second list of obstacles and distractions to
daily Bible reading in your own life. How could these obstacles
be overcome?
4. My dream for the church in 2012 would look like this:
My personal involvement and contribution will look like this:
5. Write your favorite Bible text that speaks to each of our church’s
values:
A. D.
B. E.
C. F.
6. What is the theme of the Bible? If we were to reduce the theme of
the Bible to a single word, what would that word be? Why?
7. How has Jesus earned first place in every heart and mind? What
will giving Him first place look like in 2012?
8. Commit yourself now to read through the entire Bible with us in
2012-2013. We start tomorrow, January 2, reading Genesis 1 and
Matthew 1:1-17. We’ll read the texts, write down our thoughts,
review it all with a friend, and receive a sermon from it each
Sunday. Please participate with us.
