Do You Feel Called to Serve in Angola?Harvest sent mission teams to Angola in 2010 and 2012 in support of the partnership between the Florida and East Angola Conferences of the United Methodist Church. We have the opportunity to send another team in 2014!

Our 2014 team will work in Quessua and will be hosted by Leonardo and Cleivy Garcia, the amazing missionary couple who hosted our 2012 team and was here at Harvest this two weekend ago Our team will work alongside the Garcias and the boarding school students to continue reconstruction of a building that will be used as the boys’ dormitory. This will in turn allow the existing smaller dormitory to be used for the girls who are currently housed in less secure conditions in the city of Malanje. The team will also minister to the students and the children of the surrounding villages.

Our trip will be two weeks in duration and will take place sometime between late May and late June. Due to the process for obtaining visas to enter Angola, our team needs to be defined by the end of January. If you feel called to participate in this trip or if you would like more information to help discern your calling, please contact Vaughan Harshman at [email protected] or 941-928-0453.

New Worship Series Beyond the Manger: Who Is This Man? Today we continue a series that will help you get to know Jesus better. Who is this man who forever changed the course of history? Why does his life and death matter so much? What should we make of the different titles given to him? What difference does he make for us today? Here’s what’s still to come:

January 23 & 26 – Jesus the HealerJanuary 30 & February 2 – Jesus the Savior

February 6 & 9 – Jesus the Lord

* A part of the title for this series is taken from a recent book by Rev. John Ortberg, pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park, CA. A short-term SEED group starting Jan. 29 will read this book together. See below for more details.

Men’s Retreat on January 25Deep Roots: Are We Reaching Our Full Potential?Men, are you ready to plant Deep Roots? Deep Roots is a one-day gathering of Harvest men getting to know one another as we discover and strengthen our relationship with God, family, and friends. As we search and explore ourselves in Deep Roots, the better father, son, husband and Christ follower lying deep inside each of us will not only be awakened, but free us up to be the men we want to be in God’s eyes.

Harvest’s own David Stone, a nationally recognized youth ministry author, trainer, and co-founder of Hallmark Channel, will lead us in a fun, unique and interactive style. We will be challenged as we open our minds and hearts as we grow and experience a deeper walk in our faith.

Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen faith and relationships along with other Harvest men on January 25 at Harvest from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost is $25 - lunch, materials and a keepsake are included. Register online at www.welcometoharvest.org/deeproots.

Winter SEED Groups Starting - Sign-Up NowThe beginning of a new year is a perfect time to dedicate time in faith journey to joining a short-term SEED group. This Morning’sScripture ReadingLuke 9:18-24

Following Christ

Once when Jesus was praying by

himself, the disciples joined him,

and he asked them, “Who do the

crowds say that I am?”

They answered, “John the Baptist,

others Elijah, and still others that

one of the ancient prophets has

come back to life.”

He asked them, “And what about

you? Who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “The Christ sent

from God.”

Jesus gave them strict orders not to

tell this to anyone. He said, “The

Human One must suffer many

things and be rejected—by the

elders, chief priests, and the legal

experts—and be killed and be

raised on the third day.”

Jesus said to everyone, “All who

want to come after me must say no

to themselves, take up their cross

daily, and follow me. All who want

to save their lives will lose them.

But all who lose their lives because

of me will save them.”
