VISA APPLICATIONIt is important that students apply for their stu-dent visa at least 8-12 weeks before the start of their course at the local Swiss Embassy/Consulate. To apply for a student visa, the following is required :

1. 3x visa application form, duly completed, dated and signed (available at the local Swiss Embassy/Consulate) www.bfm.admin.ch /bfm/en/home/themen/einreise/visu-mantragsformular.html

2. 4 recent passport-size photos in colour (must adhere to Schengen requirements) 3. Valid passport 4. School confirmation letter 5. Proof of financial resources (bank statement

of the applicant or applicant’s parents) 6. Diploma/certificates of completed studies

with an official translation 7. English certification

(IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, etc.) 8. Résumé (curriculum vitae) 9. Motivation letter and study plan 10. Written confirmation that the applicant will

leave Switzerland after the requested stay Visa requirements vary for each country so stu-dents should check with the Swiss Embassy/Consulate in their country before applying. For more information : www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/home/reps.html After students’ arrival in Switzerland, the school will obtain necessary permits for study and work placement.

PRE-DEPARTURE SESSIONSOrganised by the local representative across many countries, for students to meet each other and to receive a briefing on how to prepare for their stay in Switzerland.

ARRIVAL TIME/DATES 9amCheck-in weekend begins at 1pm on the Friday of the induction weekend. From this time, students will be able to move into their accommodation and have their meals at the school.Students should not arrive at school before this time. If it is unavoidable to arrive before Friday, students will be required to arrange their own ac-commodation.

TRANSFER FROM GENEVA AIRPORT For students arriving at Geneva airport, the school can arrange a transfer. For more information please contact your local representative or the admissions office. It is important that your arri-val details are communicated as soon as possible upon scheduling and no later than two weeks be-fore the beginning of term to the following email address : [email protected] The following information should be supplied :

WELCOME DESK AT GENEVA AIRPORTOver the induction weekend, a Swiss Education Group welcome desk operates at Geneva airport (Friday 8 am until Sunday evening, 6 pm). Located next to the custom clearance, the desk is marked with the Swiss Education Group logo :

Senior students and/or staff will welcome stu-dents at the desk, help them to buy their train tickets and ensure that they take the correct train to Le Bouveret or Brig. It takes approximately two hours to Le Bouveret and two and a half hours to Brig.

TRANSFER FROM ZURICH AIRPORTZurich airport has its own railway station in Base-ment 2 of Terminal B. It takes approximately one hour to Lucerne, two and a half hours to Brig and 4 hours to Le Bouveret. Subsequently, if students are travelling to our ‘Le Bouveret’ Campus, we recommend that they book their flight through to Geneva even though they may stop over in Zu-rich. Train tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter in Basement 1 or ticket machine before boarding the train and all major credit cards are accepted. For train schedules and prices, please check the following website : www.sbb.chPlease note that transfers are not organised from Zurich airport.

Lucerne students should travel to Zurich airport and inform us upon confirmation of their travel details (arrival date, time, flight number and air-line) to [email protected] Our welcome team at the Zurich airport will be happy to greet and assist students in purcha-sing train ticket(s) and taking the correct train to Lucerne. Students will be accompanied from Lucerne train station to the Lucerne campus.

ARRIVAL BY CARThose arriving by car can check their itinerary on www.viamichelin.ch entering their school’s address.The check-in at the Brig campus takes place at Themis & Xenius, where most students also re-side. The address is Spitalstrasse 3, 3900 Brig.

INDUCTION WEEKENDDuring the induction weekend, students will be involved in an orientation programme. This gives an introduction to the programmes and lifestyle at school.

A series of checkpoints are set up to help students get acquainted with the school.

We strongly recommend that students arrive no later than 4 pm on Saturday (induction all day Sunday).

LE BOUVERET AND LUCERNE CAMPUSUniforms are to be worn by all students from Monday to Friday. The professional dress code applies from Monday to Friday starting at break-fast until after dinner, as well as during evening classes and events in all public areas (including but not limited to, classrooms, office floors, re-ception areas and restaurants). Female students will receive : › 1 school blazer › 1 skirt (knee length) or 1 pair of trousers › 1 scarf

Male students will receive : › 1 school blazer › 1 pair of trousers › 1 tie

BRIG CAMPUSStudents at Brig will not be provided with a uni-form and must bring a business suit to wear. All students from Monday to Friday, during regular class hours, must wear business suits. Business suits must be complementary and dark in colour.

ALL CAMPUSESTo complete the school uniform, all female students are asked to bring : › 6 white blouses with collar – long sleeved, cotton, classic style.

› 2 pairs of black business shoes with heel (no loafers, slippers etc.)

› 1 grey or black wool sweater/pullover (to wear under the school blazer)

› 6 pairs of tights/stockings – dark/skin coloured (transparent)

› 2 black skirts or trousers (service uniform)

To complete the school uniform, all male students are asked to bring : › 6 white shirts – long sleeved, cotton, classic style › 2 pairs of black business shoes › 1 grey or black wool sweater/pullover (to wear under the school blazer)

RESTAURANT UNIFORMProfessional uniform for the restaurant practical classes are loaned to students during the academic term.

ADDITIONAL CLOTHINGStudents should bring a dark coloured business suit (to be worn when their uniform is being cleaned ; a uniform dispensation is required from the reception). For winter weather : › Thick padded jacket or overcoat › Sweaters › Gloves and scarves › Sturdy waterproof shoes › Warm hat

For Special Events :A traditional costume from students’ home country’s could prove useful for special events.

SMART CASUAL DRESSWhen out of school uniform students must bear in mind that as a representative of a hotel mana-gement school, it is important to project a pro-

fessional image. During the welcome weekend, lecturers will advise students on dress code. Students should take these comments as sound advice and act accordingly. These standards should be adhered to at all times during the academic term and during students’ internships.

NAME TAGStudents will receive a nametag and a school pin on arrival, that must be worn during class hours and while on professional excursions (they must both be worn horizontally on the left side of the blazer/jacket).

LAPTOPAlthough the school provides a modern IT resource centre, all students are encouraged to bring a laptop. Laptops must be format-ted to connect to the school network. This will be organised by the IT helpdesk upon arrival.

Students’ computers must run on an English ope-rating system (Windows or Mac). If students do not have an English operating system, they can purchase one at a discounted student rate.

INTERNATIONAL POWER ADAPTORBelow is a picture of a Swiss power socket.

An adaptor may be required to plug in electrical de-vices, these are available to purchase at most airports.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS › Alarm clock › Calculator › Dictionary › Toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.) › Stationary supplies (pens, paper, etc.) › Backpack/book bag › Travellers money belt › Umbrella and raincoat › Small sewing kit › Photocopies of important documents (eg. passport, previous educational qualifications and work experience)

› 4 passport-size photos in colour

SPENDING MONEYStudents will require pocket money in order to purchase toiletries, postage, phone calls and also to participate in leisure activities outside of school hours. The amount depends on the leisure activi-ties undertaken, however a suggested minimum amount is CHF 100.- per week.

ITEMS FORBIDDEN ON ALL CAMPUSES › Electrical appliances such as irons, heating elements, rice cookers, toasters, cooking ap-pliances etc are forbidden. (Hair dryers and sound systems are an exception). This rule is important for fire prevention.

› Weapons and substitutes (pocket knives) are strictly forbidden.

› Only medicines issued via prescription by a re-gistered doctor may be brought to school. César Ritz Colleges has a no drugs policy, on and off campus.

› Alcohol – no alcohol is to be brought on school premises by any students.

STUDY FACILITIESCampusThe entire campus is set in a magnificent 26,000 m2 lakeside location and offers a tranquil and secure study environment. The main buil-ding holds classrooms, accommodation, The Ritz Lounge and the academic and operations offices. The new campus extension, finished in 2012, pro-vides 100 fully equipped single superior deluxe rooms, kitchen faculty and instructors’ offices and state-of-the-art kitchen facilities in collaboration with the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland.

Training RestaurantStudents apply food and beverage theory they have learned when applying service skills at the Cesar Ritz Fine Dining, a traditional fine-dining res-taurant serving an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Learning Resource CentreA full-time librarian is on hand, in the well-stocked library, to assist with students’ questions. Students also have access to a wide range of online catalogues, articles and iPad resourcesAll students receive an iPad upon arrival, for them to keep after they graduate.

GENERAL INFORMATIONLe Bouveret is a charismatic French-speaking town nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva, just a five-minute drive to neighbouring France. Known for its beautiful beach and many outdoor attractions, Le Bouveret is a popular summer resort. Conveniently located near the vibrant towns of Montreux and Lausanne, the nearest airport is Geneva International Airport.Located in a magnificent former hotel dating back to the early 1900s, the César Ritz campus is just minutes away from the town centre and the lake.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIESRestaurantsStudents have the choice to eat in either of the restaurants available on campus : The Cesar Ritz Fine Dining or The Lakeview Restaurant (interna-tional buffet). All meals in these restaurants are included in the fees. The Ritz LoungeRenovated in 2013, students can purchase a cof-fee, snacks or warm dishes from early morning until late in the evening. The UndergroundThe students’ bar and nightclub, open four evenings per week, until late on weekends. GymThe gym provides a selection of weight machines, as well as aerobic training facilities. Located in the extension, it is the perfect place for students to expand their energy. When using the fitness fa-cilities, students should be fully informed about the specifics of each machine and ensure proper use of the equipment in order to prevent injury or misuse. The gym is open 7 days per week from 10am to 11pm. Vending MachinesCold drinks and snacks are available in vending machines located on campus.

ACCOMMODATIONAll student accommodation is designed to offer students the comfort and privacy needed for study or to simply relax. Bedrooms are spacious, modern and comfortable; all are non-smoking. Rooms are located both in the main school buil-ding overlooking the lake and in the adjacent Bellevue building set among the trees. All stu-dents must chose a room category before they enroll :

OTHER INFORMATIONRoom KeyEach live-in student will be issued with a key, which will give them access to the building as well as their room. If a key is lost or damaged, a replacement can be obtained from the reception for CHF 100.-. Keys must be returned at the end of each term. Internet AccessA wireless connection is accessible througout all school buildings for student use. PrintersStudents receive a credit of CHF 30.- at the start of each term to use the printers and photoco-piers, which are located around the campus. This amount can be topped up in cash during the term if required.

Laundry RoomA fully equipped student laundry room is available with washers, dryers and ironing boards. These facilities are card-operated. Cards are available for purchase from the reception. School E-mailAll students will be provided with a school email address through which they will receive all school-related information. Students are required to check their e-mail on a regular basis in order to keep up to date with the school’s operations. MailIncoming student mail will be distributed daily to students’ pigeonholes (located at the reception). Parcels must be signed for at reception.

ACTIVITIES IN LE BOUVERETAquaparcThis water theme park is located a few minutes walk from the campus , offering both indoor and outdoor fun, thrills and excitement all year long. It offers pools, water slides, wellness areas, a sauna, and steam bath. Swiss Vapeur ParcThis unique park on the shores of Lake Geneva displays miniature replicas from the rich heritage of Switzerland : castles, churches, bridges, tun-nels and other viaducts. Stroll through the park or take a ride on the miniature train to experience Switzerland’s beautiful outdoors.

HOTELS IN LE BOUVERETDue to space limitations, the school is unable to provide accommodation for visitors. However, the school has special rates with hotels in Le Bouveret/ Montreux. For more details, student should contact the reception.

STUDY FACILITIESCampusThe campus is located in the heart of the city of Lucerne, in the impressive former Union hotel that was built in the 1900s and underwent major renovations in 2012, to welcome students in mo-dern facilities. Known for its culture and modern convention centre, Lucerne has a large selection of shops, cinemas, museums, theatres, restau-rants, bars and clubs for students to enjoy.

Training RestaurantStudents apply food and beverage theory they have learned when applying service skills at the Cesar Ritz Fine Dining in the Grand Hall, a tradi-tional fine-dining restaurant, offering an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner. RECREATIONAL FACILITIESRestaurantsStudents have the choice to eat in any of the res-taurants available on campus : The Cesar Ritz Fine Dining in the Grand Hall or The Grand Hall (inter-national buffet). All meals in these restaurants are included in the fees. Coffee BeansOpen during school hours, students can purchase a coffee, snacks or warm dishes. Coffee Beans is only open in the evenings for special occasions including Halloween and karaoke night. Vending MachinesCold drinks and snacks are available in vending machines located on campus. GymA number of membership cards for the local gym are available to loan from the Front Desk. This service is free of charge, however students inte-rested to use the gym are required to pay a one-time fee of CHF 50 for an introduction course. The gym is located approximately 20 minutes by foot from the campus and seven minutes by bus.

ACCOMMODATION

The Lucerne campus offers a range of different room categories right in the heart of the city centre. All accommodation is modern, comfor-table and spacious to enable students to feel at home. Rooms are located in the main campus building and also the ‘Limelight’ building next door; all are non-smoking. The top floor rooms, equipped with balconies allow a superb view over the city and the magnificent Lake Lucerne. All students must chose a room category before they enroll :

ACTIVITIES IN LUCERNEChapel BridgeBuilt in the first half of the 14th century, this is one of the most famous landmarks of the city of Lucerne and a must see for all visitors. KKL LuzernThis Convention and Cultural Center is hosted in an iconic Jean Nouvel building and is home to a concert hall, an auditorium and various food and beverage outlets. Various types of events and concerts are held there throughout the year, ran-ging from classical music to modern pop music. Excursions around LucerneLucerne is nestled in the picturesque Lake Lucerne area where students can enjoy numerous boat cruise opportunities as well as trips and excursions to some of Switzerland’s most famous mountain peaks. The Pilatus, the Rigi, the Engelberg-Titlis area or the Stanserhorn all offer breath taking views and panoramas of central Switzerland. Sport and LeisureFor students interested in sports there are a multi-tude of activities available : mountain biking, golf, ice-skating and tennis just to name a few. In the summer months the magnificent Lake Lucerne is home to many water sports, such as: dragon boat racing, canoeing, kayaking, wakeboarding and windsurfing. Students also have access to a ful-ly equipped sports hall, located just two minutes by foot from the campus and available for group sport activities twice a week. For the winter months

the campus is located within a one-hour drive from many ski resorts situated in the Swiss Alps, for stu-dents to enjoy during their free time. A Sports and Leisure Coordinator is at the disposal of students and will organise weekly sport activities as well as excursions. (Some activities are at students’ own expenses, with others free of charge).

STUDY FACILITIESCampusThe campus is situated in two main buildings in the centre of Brig, providing students with an ideal location for their university experience. The University Centre is where all academic fa-cilities and the main restaurant are located. The university’s first-class accommodation, ‘Themis & Xenius’ can be reached within a five-minute walking distance and is the largest of the student dormitories.

The RestaurantThe main buffet restaurant in the University Centre building serves an international buffet for lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday. Learning Resource CentreA full-time librarian is on hand, in the well-stocked library, to assist with students’ questions. Students also have access to a wide range of on-line catalogues and articles.

GENERAL INFORMATIONThe University Centre César Ritz is situated in the town of Brig-Glis, the largest German-speaking town in the Valais region. Brig’s charming cobblestoned centre is located within walking distance to the cen-tral train station where trains can take students to Bern in approximately one hour or to Milan in less than two hours. With a bustling shopping area and local markets, Brig is a great location to spend the evenings or weekends unwinding in the town’s unique variety of restaurants and bars.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIESCosmosLocated in the Themis & Xenius building, students can purchase a coffee, snacks and hot meals from early morning until late in the evening. ChaosThe student bar and nightclub are open four evenings per week, until late on weekends. Located in the Themis & Xenius building, students host parties, theme nights, poker tournaments, video games and much more. GymThe gym provides a selection of weight machines, as well as aerobic training facilities. It is the perfect place for students to expand their energy! When using the fitness facilities, students must ensure that they are informed about the specifics of each machine and that they use the equipment properly. Any misuse of fitness equipment may lead to injury. Vending MachinesCold drinks and snacks are available in vending machines located on campus.

ACCOMMODATIONIn Brig, all students have single en-suite rooms to ensure ultimate privacy. All rooms are equipped with modern furniture and are non-smoking. Themis & Xenius is the name of the environmen- tally friendly student lodging with 216 single deluxe rooms. Fully equipped kitchens are available in the accommodation buildings to enable students to cook and dine with friends at the weekends. All students must chose a room cate-gory before they enroll :

Internet AccessA wireless connection is accessible throughout all school buildings for student use. PrintersStudents receive a rechargeable print-card with credits at the start of each term for use of the printers, which are located around the campus.

Laundry RoomFully equipped student laundry facilities are available, including washers, dryers and ironing boards. These facilities are card-operated. ACTIVITIES IN BRIGBrigerbadBrigerbad is a little village, situated in the sou-thern slope toe of the Rhone Valley and just mi-nutes away from the town center of Brig. It offers a relaxing thermal bath (hot springs) destination where you will be able to unwind during your free time. SimplonpassIf students are interested in hiking, this is the per-fect activity. This mountain pass road starts in Brig and links the Rhone Valley to the Val d’Ossola in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. Great Aletsch GlacierThis is the longest stream of ice in the Alps, 23km in length originating from the Jungfrau area. It has been classified as a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 2001 and its surroundings provide some of the best ski resorts in the Brig area.

HOLIDAY PERIODSCesar Ritz Colleges Switzerland is able to ac-commodate students during term breaks free of charge. Accommodation can be provided in any of the Swiss Education Group schools’ campuses. (students may be required to move campus for this duration).

HOUSEKEEPING SERVICESLinen and towels are provided for students and rooms are cleaned once per week by the housekeeping team. Students are required to keep their room clean and tidy at all times.

MEALSFull board is provided 7 days a week; 3 meals on weekdays and 2 meals (brunch and dinner) at weekends with the exception of Brig Campus, where 2 meals (lunch and dinner) are provided from Monday to Friday only. Fully equipped kitchen facilities are available in the dormitories in Brig, to allow students to cook and dine at weekends and every day for breakfast.A range of options are offered at all meal times with vegetarian and non-pork/beef menus avai-lable. Students requiring a special diet due to me-dical reasons should inform the student counselor upon their arrival at school. A medical certificate will be required. For students who observe Ramadan, special arrangements for meals can be arranged upon request.

STUDENT COUNSELORThe student counselor is available for students who wish to discuss health issues or social problems.Any medical problems that may prevent students from attending class will need to be reported im-mediately to the student counselor and the ‘Front Desk’. Failure to inform the counselor may result in unexcused absences from class.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIESAt Cesar Ritz Colleges, learning continues beyond the classroom walls. There are excellent opportunities to participate in social and sporting activities throughout Switzerland and Europe. Many of these activities are organised by the Stu-dent Ambassador Forum and Sports and Leisure Coordinator.

RECEPTIONThe reception staff is at students’ disposal from Monday to Friday. Outside of opening hours, a residence supervisor is on call.

LUGGAGE ROOMDuring students’ internship they will have the op-portunity to store one piece of luggage or one standard box in the school’s storage room for a maximum period of six months. All items must be clearly labeled and locked or sealed. This service is free of charge and the school will not be held res-ponsible for any damages or loss of possessions.

HEALTH CARE AND MEDICAL INSURANCEThe school provides students with health care co-verage (including the daily cost of hospitalization in a shared room) and for corporal accident both on and off school premises in Switzerland and abroad. In case of accident or illness, students should first contact the reception or the student counselor who will organize further action. Only medicines provided by doctors are covered and dental care is not included in the coverage. All medical bills should be forwarded to the schools health insurance coordinator and must not be paid by the student.

MEDICATIONSome standard medicines are available at the stu-dent counselor’s office or the front desk.

REFUNDABLE DEPOSITThis deposit is a security deposit from which the following can be deducted : › Damages caused directly by students, to their room and/ or the school premises

› Health insurance during students’ internship › Unpaid school fees under CHF 100.-

The refundable deposit is paid once in full and in the following terms the student will pay what has been used during each term. The refundable deposit will be refunded six months after the end of the last academic term accordingly.

SAFETY AND SECURITY ON CAMPUSAll César Ritz Colleges buildings are equipped with camera surveillance. A fire drill will be carried out at the beginning of each term. For students’ own safety, they should familiarize themselves with emergency proce-dures and fire escape routes.

SMOKING AREASFor safety reasons, smoking is strictly prohibited except in designated areas.

VISITORSVisitors are welcome on campus during certain hours. All visitors must report to the reception upon arrival and will be provided with a visitor badge. A form of identification must be pre-sented.

There are a vast range of activities and destina-tions for students to enjoy during their time in Switzerland and students are encouraged to ex-plore as much as possible during their stay.

LausanneAttractions include the Olympic museum, the Quai d’Ouchy promenade and the old town. GenevaVisit the St-Pierre cathedral and its ancient vaults, the old town and one of the most popular at-tractions, the Jet d’eau. An ideal destination for a shopping trip on a Saturday! BernSwitzerland’s capital city has a very attractive old town with lots of style! Highly recommended for an impressive Saturday excursion. ZurichZurich is often referred to as the economic capital of Switzerland. It is a vibrant city with a lot to offer ; with a variety of trendy bars and restaurants, the city’s nightlife is worth exploring!

HISTORYSwitzerland’s history has been greatly influenced by its geography, which divides the country into small regions. These regions were independent until 1848 when the country became a confe-deration. CLIMATEGenerally speaking, spring is wet and cool, summer is warm and dry with maximum temperatures up to 35°C. Fall is usually dry, but cool. AIRPORTSGeneva airport is the closest international airport to Le Bouveret campus (about two hours by car or train). There are daily flights between Geneva and most European capitals, with some running throughout American and Middle Eastern cities.Zurich airport is the closest international airport to Lucerne and Brig campuses (about one hour and two and a half hours respectively by train). There are daily flights between Zurich and numerous in-ternational cities worldwide.

GETTING AROUNDThe easiest and most affordable means of travel in Switzerland is by train. A half-fare card (demi-tarif) can be purchased at any train station and allows tra-vel on trains at 50% of the normal fare.Combined with the half-fare card, students can also buy the “Voie 7” pass that allows them to travel in second class for free after 7 pm. CURRENCYThe local currency is the Swiss franc. The franc notes come in CHF 10.-, 20.-, 50.-, 100.-, 200.- and 1,000.- denominations.

For mobile phone subscriptions, Swiss Education Group has partnered with Sunrise and offers all students a special mobile phone contract at a very attractive rate. Business and Shopping HoursMost offices are open between 8 am and 5 pm (Monday to Friday) while retail shops open from 9 am until 6.30 pm (Monday to Friday) and 8 am until 5 pm on Saturdays, and 4pm on Saturdays in Lucerne.

Religious ServicesThe predominant religions in Switzerland are Catholicism and Protestantism. Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish and Anglican communities are also established in most major cities of Switzer-land.
