Ensuring every member of the school community can...
‘Be The Best You Can Be’ 'And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward
love and good deeds,' Hebrews 10:24
Welcome from Mrs Lavis And so we find ourselves in a new era, although remembering to stay hopeful as
this is temporary and will pass …
If you are unwell – we wish you a speedy recovery. If you would like yourself or a
loved one to be included in prayer then please let us know and we will pass it on.
If you are doing your bit for the fight against Covid-19 by staying at home with
your children – thank you. You are all heroes and although you might not know it,
you are saving lives. We are here to help you stay connected and to support you
as much as we can. If you are going to work in one of the jobs critical to the
response for coronavirus – thank you for your service.
Home learning – one of the biggest messages to give you, if you are participating
in home learning, is to pace yourselves. There’s no rush to complete everything
online in the first week, there is certainly no pressure to do so. Keep your
expectations realistic – be flexible – be kind to yourselves and each other - this is a
huge change to family life. We are aware that some parents want more and
some parents want less and catering for all is an impossible job. Please only do
what fits in with your life and your child/ren. If you find useful resources, or have
some top tips we would love to read about them via [email protected] We
might not be able to share them all but we will do our best. As with anything
shared, this will be offered in the spirit of support rather than demand,
understanding that everyone's home is set up differently.
We are also learning at this time, this is a new world for educational professionals
too. We are working hard to balance physical child care with a skeleton staff and
the hygiene requirements to try and keep all as healthy as possible, alongside
virtual engagement and connection with the safety challenges this presents. We
are really happy to receive feedback but it’s always easier to read if it is in
keeping with our school values. Thank you.
Any issues please let us know and we’ll try our best to sort something for you.
Connection – “We’re in this together”:
Daily – We would like to send a thought or a reflection for the day. We are happy
to start this but feel it would be even better if we can draw on you, the school
community. So, if you have been inspired by a quote, a prayer, a picture, an act
etc let us know and we will share.
Weekly - We would like to send out a weekly newsletter during this extraordinary
time but we are going to need your help. We would really love this to cover as
much of our our scattered school population as possible, so please send in
pictures of work or fun at home that you are happy for us to share across

the community.
There are many wonderful initiatives starting up particularly on YouTube - including
our very own Mr Doku. Whilst YouTube can be a fantastic way to stay fit, informed,
entertained and connected please ensure that parental restrictions are set and that
you are supervising your children when/if they are accessing YouTube. If you need
help with this please let us know.
Friday 27th March should have been the last day of the Spring term and ordinarily
we would be looking forward to a well earned Easter break of 2 weeks. With this in
mind, and as previously mentioned, no new learning activities will be uploaded to
the website over what would have been the Easter holidays. Many teachers have
volunteered to work, in order to keep the provision open in the school building for
our key worker families, however when not doing that they will be having some well
earned time off and will not be responding to emails or posts from online
learning. Having said that, we appreciate that you will still be at home with your
children so if you want to and only if you want to, we will pop on the website and via
Teams, some 'fun' Easter activities so that if you are at a loss, there are some ideas
for you. Teachers working from home are currently planning these and material for
after Easter, so keep checking out the website.
For those of you who have spoken to school staff about needing a place for your
child/ren over the Easter break, more information on times of opening/closing and
where to register in the mornings is coming very soon. Thanks for your patience while
we set this up.
We will also endeavour to keep you updated and share any official advice and
guidance we get that is relevant to you and the care of your children.
Until then - stay positive, stay hopeful, stay in touch.
Help if you need it… These are strange and unusual times.
If you find yourself in a position of struggle—be in financially;
managing expectations and/or workloads; coping with
uncertainty—there is a lot support out there and in our local
community.
If you need help with signposting to support agencies, please let
us know.

WORLD BOOK DAY
Year 5 have had a very busy and exciting couple of
weeks, including visits from the Fire Service and an author
for World Book Day. Last week, we went to Dawlish
Warren and studied the beach management. The
highlight of the trip was seeing the Geotube but it did
make us reflect on the impact the recent storms have
had on future of the sand spit. We spent lots of time
reflecting on our topic question ‘Should we let nature
take its course?’.
Whilst exploring the pond in
school, Year 4 children found a
family of tadpoles! Don’t worry
though, they were safely
returned to their habitat.

The Love Heart and the Shamrock are being displayed in windows
to visually unite our isolated communities.
The sending of Love and Hope is already uniting neighbourhoods and creating
opportunities for families to join together and send their good thoughts. Maybe
send one to your local residential home to let them know you are thinking of them
and care very much about them.
