Vol. 51 No. 1 Sunday, August 24, 2014

On behalf of DCUC’s Board of Directors, management, and staff, I would

like to extend a big Texas welcome to all of our attendees, speakers,

exhibitors, and guests. We appreciate you taking the time out of your

busy schedule to be here with us.

We gather this year in Dallas, a city that truly is an economic power-

house. In 2013, Dallas led the country in the largest year-over-year in-

crease in employment. In one stretch of the city alone, known as Tele-

com Corridor, Dallas is home to 5700 companies, and the city boasts

the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies as well as the

third most popular destination for business travel. Dallas, with its tradi-

tion of taking the bull by the horns or in this case taking business by the

horns, is truly a superb setting for our 51st Annual Conference!

But it’s not the city that matters the most; it’s the tradition of gathering

year after year to share information and ideas, to applaud those individ-

uals and credit unions being awarded for their years of service or best practices, and to reaffirm our

commitment to serving those who serve our Country.

As always, we have strong delegate attendance, a lineup of the “Who’s Who” of conference speakers,

great corporate partner attendance, and special tours on tap for delegates, spouses, and guests.

Whether you are sitting in the educational sessions or

discussing business with colleagues at relaxed

meals and the Chairman’s Reception, DCUC’s 51st

Annual Conference is sure to be nothing less than

outstanding.

Defense credit unions have been supporting our

Nation’s service members for over 85 years, and we

hope your time with us in Dallas helps you cement

your commitment to these great Americans for the

next 85 years… and beyond!

I thank you all for your continued staunch support

of your Council and hope your conference experi-

ence is the best to date.

Looking to the Future… in a BIG way!

“Serving Those Who Serve Our Country”

DCUC Showcase With a Purpose! With the help of our exhibitors, friends and you, DCUC will once again be supporting a worthy

cause at our Annual Conference. This year, we will be raising funds for Operation Mend, a

program that provides plastic and reconstructive surgery to our returning wounded service

members. This care is provided at no cost by leading plastic surgeons at UCLA, while the

Operation Mend Fund underwrites service members’ transportation and lodging costs. Start-

ed in 2007, the program has treated over 100 service members from the Army, Marines,

Navy, Air Force, and Army National Guard, and they continue to strive to expand their ser-

vices to whatever is needed by these service members.

As in past years, DCUC’s Showcase will feature silent auction items located at Exhibitor’s

booths as well as a live auction. Proceeds from the winning bids as well as the 50/50 raffle

will go to support Operation Mend’s mission of healing the wounds of war by delivery leading

-edge patient care, research, and education. We also be selling raffle tickets for a fantastic,

handmade Texas flag blanket generously made and donated by one of our members!

Please join us once again as we continue to support those who serve our country!

2014 White House Christmas Ornament on Sale at the Registration Desk - Pick up yours today for only $20 each!

The 2014 White House Christmas ornament honors the administra-

tion of Warren G. Harding, our twenty-ninth president. This year’s

two-piece ornament is a miniature replica of the steam-powered

locomotives that pulled the Presidential Special, the train that car-

ried President Harding west at the outset of his ambitious voyage

and that would tragically carry his casket back east following his

sudden death, just two months later. The other miniature car is the

Superb, the president’s private heavyweight Pullman car.

As always, the proceeds of our sales benefit DCUC’s George E. My-

ers Scholarship fund which annually provides scholarships to further

the education of our member credit union employees and execu-

tives. Since 1998, the GEM fund has provided 35 scholarships.

Ornaments are $20 on-site. The price will be $22 after the confer-

ence, so pick up your ornament today!
