On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and advisory committee, Sac Cultural Hub Media Company and Foundation welcomes you to Northern California’s only professional conference for Exceptional Women of Color. Thank you for joining us for another exciting celebration of recognition, mentorship, education, and empowerment for women by women.

With your continued support over the past 6 years, Sac Cultural Hub has hosted a series of extraordinary, thought provoking presenters who have selflessly shared words of wisdom, adversity, leadership, and determination that continues to transform professional and personal lives of women and young adults. This year’s theme Exceptional Women of Color Impacting All Communities, recognizes that women make a positive impact when we commit to develop the talents of individuals, companies, organizations, and communities. Women and young adults ultimately want the same thing: 1) To improve their circumstances by increasing their level of prosperity; and 2) Make an impact in the lives of the people they serve.

For the purpose of creating a positive impact in our community, Sac Cultural Hub Media Foundation has expanded our education and outreach platform to include community health and well-being. Staff and Advisory Committee members are currently engaged in local, regional, and state initiatives that will result in increased delivery and improved quality of health and wellness services for African Americans. These initiatives include a focus of strategies to address HIV/AIDS in the African American community in partnership with Cares Community Health; increasing the capacity and impact of organizations serving residents in the Greater Sacramento region though Sierra Health Foundations Healthy Sacramento Coalition; developing a community action plan to reduce disparities in health where we live work and play through partnership with The SOL Project; initiatives to reduce breast cancer in partnership with Susan G Komen Foundation; initiatives to reduce prostate cancer through partnership the Sacramento Community Cancer Coalition; and partnership with Covered California to ensure that African Americans obtain affordable health care insurance and have access to services needed to improve and maintain good health.

Everyone has a role to play to positively impact communities of color. Women were specifically created to do great things. Through individual or collective efforts, consistent and positive change can and will occur. Women must recall the lessons learned from past civil rights struggles across ethnicity and gender and use these herstorical and historical notes to move forward collectively beyond the obstacles we still may have to face.

Please take advantage of every opportunity to introduce yourself to as many conference participants as possible. There is power in taking advantage of networking. Extending yourself to get to know more about a different organization. Extend yourself to invite someone out to coffee or lunch from a difference background or generation to expand circles of support or make new friends.

Thank you to all our corporate, community and business partners who make our conference possible. We value and appreciate your generous contributions. It is our desire to ensure that future conferences will continue to be impactful and motivating. We welcome your ideas and feedback on ways to improve future conferences. If you have new ideas for the EWOC, please be sure to complete the evaluation survey provided. Enjoy todays conference and we wish you the very best of success as an exceptional woman of color!
