Doelstellingen van de BBC

De BBC werd opgericht in 2005.De BBC wil in de eerste plaats eenplatform zijn voor een interactie tussen navorsers in de neuro-wetenschappen, clinici, patiëntenorganisaties en farmaceutische bedrijven, om samen:

1) het brede publiek te informerenen te sensibiliseren over de hersenen, over neurologische enpsychiatrische ziekten

2) de financiering en de vooruitgangvan het onderzoek over dehersenen en hersenaanoeningente verbeteren

3) alles in het werk te stellen omde verzorging van patiënten methersenziekten te optimaliseren inde Belgische gezondheidszorg.

Die Ziele des BBC

Das BBC wurde 2005 gegrundet.Das BBC will eine multidisziplinärePlattform sein, in der Neuro-wissenschaftler, Kliniker, Patientenorganisationen und die Pharmaindustrie zusammen arbeiten um:

1) In der Bevölkerung das Bewusstsein fur und dieKenntnis uber neurologische undpsychiatrische Krankheiten zufördern.

2) Finanzierung und Fortschritt inder Erforschung des Gehirns undseiner Erkrankungen zu fördern.

3) Die Betreuung von Patienten mit Hirnerkrankungen im Belgischen Gesundheitssystemzu verbessern.

Objectifs du BBCLe BBC fut fondé en 2005.Son objectif principal est d’être uneplateforme multidisciplinaireoù peuvent interagir neurobiologistes fondamentaux, cliniciens, associations de patients et firmes pharmaceutiques dans le but de:

1) accroître dans la populationla prise de conscience et lesconnaissances sur le cerveau etles maladies neurologiques etpsychiatriques

2) augmenter le financementet soutenir la recherche sur lecerveau et ses maladies

3) mettre tout en oeuvre pouroptimaliser la prise en charge despatients souffrant de maladies ducerveau dans le cadre du systèmede santé belge.

Het belang van hersenonderzoek.

Meer dan één op drie burgers van dit land zal dit jaar geconfronteerd worden met een hersenziekte, en heel wat meer zullen er indirect mee te maken krijgen (als familielid, buur, collega, enz.)

In 2010 begrootte de European Brain Council (EBC) de kostprijs van hersenaandoeningen voor Europa 798 miljard Euro en 18 miljard euro voor België.

Hersenziektes hebben ook een belangrijke indirecte kostprijs: Absenteïsme en werkloosheid, productiviteitsverlies, armoede en sociale uitsluiting, extra kosten voor familie en omgeving.

Importance de la recherche sur le cerveau.

Cette année, au moins un concitoyen sur trois sera confronté à une maladie du cerveau, et plus nombreux encore ceux qui y seront confrontés indirectement (membres de la famille, voisins, collègues, etc.).

En 2010, le European Brain Council (EBC) a estimé que le coût total des maladies du cerveau s’élevait à 798 milliards d’euros en Europe et à 18 milliards en Belgique.

Le coût indirect de ces maladies est lui aussi considérable: absentéisme et chômage, baisse de productivité, pauvreté et exclusion sociale, coût additionnel pour les familles et l’entourage.

Waarmee worden patiënten en hun omgeving geconfronteerd?

Hersenziektes worden niet altijd evenzeer erkend als fysieke ziektes.De onderliggende werking van de hersenen wordt niet altijd begrepen.

Er is nood aan informatiecampagnes die ook het brede publiek informeren en een positieve boodschap uitdragen. Vooral, maar niet alleen voor geestesziekten, heerst heel wat onbegrip en discriminatie en uitsluiting.

Acties zoals deze Brain Awareness Week en het publiek optreden van de Brain Ambassadors zijn zeer belangrijk voor patiënten en hun omgeving

À quoi les patients et leur entourage sont-ils

confrontés?

Les maladies du cerveau ne sont pas toujours considérées de la même façon que les maladies somatiques. Le fonctionnement sous-jacent du cerveau n’est pas toujours compris.

Des campagnes d’information destinées au grand public et porteuses d’un message positif sont nécessaires car les maladies mentales, mais pas elles uniquement, se heurtent à l’incompréhension, la discrimination et l’exclusion.

Des actions comme la Brain Awareness Week et l’apparition publique des Brain Ambassadors sont importantes pour le patient et son entourage.

Waarom is er nood aan (meer) hersenonderzoek?

• De kostprijs, en vooral de indirecte kostprijs van hersenziektes wordt veelal onderschat. De return on investment van hersenonderzoek is zeer groot.

Niet (meer) investeren in hersenonderzoek zal dramatische budgettaire gevolgen hebben. Nu reeds gaat 1/3de van het globale gezondheidsbudget naar hersenziektes.

Pourquoi le besoin de (plus de) recherche sur le cerveau?

• Le coût des maladies du cerveau – surtout leur coût indirect, est généralement sous-estimé. Le retour sur investissement de la recherche sur le cerveau est cependant considérable.

Ne pas ou ne plus investir dans cette recherche aura des conséquences budgétaires dramatiques. Car aujourd’hui déjà, 1/3 du budget global des soins de santé est consacré aux maladies du cerveau.

Pourquoi le besoin de (plus de) recherche sur le cerveau?

• Malgré la grande efficacité thérapeutique dans bon nombre de cas, le nihilisme thérapeutique guette: ici aussi, la stigmatisation constitue un important facteur négatif.

• « Il n’y a rien à faire » et « cela ne s’arrangera sûrement pas » sont des préjugés tenaces qui pèsent sur les maladies du cerveau.

• Alhoewel behandeling in veel gevallen zeer efficiënt is, heerst er een zeker therapeutisch nihilisme: ook hier vormt stigma een belangrijke negatieve factor.

• “Er is niets aan te doen, het komt toch nooit goed “ zijn hardnekkige vooroordelen wanneer het over hersenaandoeningen gaat.

Quelles sont les attentes du patient et de son

entourage?

Que la recherche:• Débouche sur des traitements et des soins

innovants, efficaces et abordables.• Propose des modèles de traitement et des

méthodes d’approche nouveaux. • Permette au patient de vivre plus longtemps en

bonne santé et en restant actif.• Améliore les résultats thérapeutiques pour

tous les patients (lutte contre les inégalités et la discrimination).

Verwachtingen van patiënten en hun

omgeving:

• Vertalen van onderzoeksresultaten naar innoverende behandeling en zorg.

• Nieuwe behandelingsmodellen en benaderingswijzen introduceren.

• Een bijdrage leveren tot langer gezond en actief leven.

• Betere behandelingsresultaten voor elke patiënt (bestrijden van ongelijkheden en discriminatie).

• Bijdragen tot een competitieve gezondheidssector.

Extrait des recommandations d’un projet de recherche européen (ROAMER) présenté à Londres le 12 mars dernier.

La recherche doit contribuer activement à l’autonomisation du patient et de son entourage (empowerment) : ces derniers doivent y être associés activement.

La recherche doit contribuer à la création d’une image positive, ainsi qu’à la lutte contre la stigmatisation, l’exclusion et la discrimination.

La recherche doit également s’employer à promouvoir la qualité des soins et tenir compte du contexte socio-économique.

Uit de aanbevelingen van een Europees onderzoeksproject (ROAMER) vorige week (12/03) voorgesteld in London

Onderzoek moet op een actieve manier bijdragen tot het mondig maken van patiënten en hun omgeving (empowerment) door hen actief bij het onderzoek te betrekken.

Onderzoek moet bijdragen tot positieve beeldvorming en bestrijden van stigma, uitsluiting en discriminatie

Binnen onderzoek moet ook aandacht zijn voor kwaliteit van de zorg, met inbegrip van de socio-culturele en socio-economische context.

Le Belgian Brain Council existe depuis 10 ans

Dès sa fondation, le BBC a résolument choisi d’associer les patients et leur entourage à ses activités.

Les associations de patients sont membres du conseil d’administration du BBC et participent activement à ses congrès bisannuels.Fait remarquable, pour faciliter la compréhension des posters qui y sont présentés, le BBC propose un résumé des abstracts rédigé dans un langage accessible à tous, favorisant ainsi grandement le dialogue entre patients et chercheurs.

Notre présence à cette Ambassadors Day est également très appréciée.

Nous profitons des 10 ans d’existence du BBC pour lui souhaiter bonne continuation et bon courage au cours de la prochaine décennie.

10 jaar Belgian Brain Council

Vanaf haar oprichting heeft de BBC resoluut gekozen voor het actief betrekken van patiënten en hun omgeving bij haar activiteiten.

Patiëntenverenigingen zijn lid van de raad van bestuur en op de tweejaarlijkse congressen wordt ruime plaats geboden aan patiënten.Opmerkelijk daarbij is het ontsluiten van de posters op het tweejaarlijkse BBCongres, door alle abstracts te vervolledigen met een in “leken”taal gestelde samenvatting, wat de dialoog tussen patienten en onderzoekers ten zeerste bevordert.

Ook onze aanwezigheid op deze Ambassadors Day wordt zeer geapprecieerd.

Oprechte gelukwensen bij deze tiende verjaardag en met volle moed het tweede decennium in.
