Important Considerations (Canvas) Diagnostic Assessments & Mental Health Counseling 26 billable hours for each therapist – tied to a DHS grant Full days at each site. Days will be worked out based on need and
referrals Elementary sites: School social worker is your point of contact. If the
student is a good candidate, social worker will get a release from the parent to begin a referral. TAP therapist will get another release if referral is processed.
Behavior SpecialistKaren Cass Felling
Licensed psychologist in private practice who specializes in working with children who have social communication and interaction disorders.
Karen will be on site 2 full days a month. Purpose is to assist with high needs programming
& staff development. To be effective, we are looking to focus her time on the “Bridge” programs for 15-16. She will spend time with the teachers and PSAs to train/guide in real time.
Per Amy/Dave, Karen may be asked to assist with specific student situations or IEPs that pop up.
PBIS & SWISHMS is part of a PBIS cohort and will be
implementing parts of PBIS at the MS this coming school year. As part of the implementation process of PBIS, we will begin to collect behavior data. The system we will be using is called SWIS.
SWIS is a reliable, confidential, web-based information system to collect, summarize and use student behavior data for decision making.
SWIS will be used both at the HMS and the elementary buildings.
Intervention Planning Team (IPT)
Pre-Referral Intervention Teams will now be called Intervention Planning Teams (IPT). This will be a consistent name across the district. The Child Study Review Team (CSRT) name will remain the same.
There is one change with regard to the pre-referral process. We will no longer be giving the general education teachers the Cognitive Processing Inventory (CPI) prior to the Prior Written Notice (PWN) being signed by the parent. Parents can still be sent the Home and Family Questionnaire and CPI prior to the PWN.
iPlan and Refresh It is important to remember to refresh and save the
demographics any time you make changes on an IEP.
Do Not key in any demographic information into iPlan. The reason it is important not to make changes in the demographic boxes is because that information comes from the district office and it is aligned with MARSS.
There should not be both draft and active plans for students after the due process has been returned and signed from the parent(s).
iPlan MentorsTeam

Maria Paulson – Kennedy

Katie Richardson – HHS

Mary Rowan – Tech support
Roles
3 meetings per year with Amy/Dave – bring compliance & due process info back to sites.
Attend TIES SIG meetings in Roseville.
Building-related iPlan questions.
Plan iPlan staffing for new staff.
Transportation “Special Ed Transportation” – New oversight company in charge of
coordinating special ed transportation.
Case managers or district reps will still complete the transportation form and send to Tracy Ries.
Tracy Ries will forward the form to Special Ed Transportation. Sped Trans will contact the parent/guardian with pick up/drop off info
Do not contact Hastings Bus Company or Terry for new routes or changing special ed routes. Point of contact is Tracy first, then [email protected].
Special ed transportation form has one change: Door to door is no longer an option to select. Curb to curb is the district responsibility.
Fiscal compliance: For kids needing special ed transportation, more detail is required in the IEPs to justify the needs and the related costs.
Non-PublicNew “Non-Public” section on Hastings website
Letter to private school & homeschool families Obligation is to locate, eval & identify children Child find cannot rely on private school
Procedural safeguards for non-public Mechanism for ensuring parents understand their right to an eval and
due process rights. FAPE is proportional
Contact info for non-public (mostly the same as last year – names updated with new Hastings’ staff on CSRT for each site)
Changes on the horizon Public school cannot direct the work of non-publics - we should not be
listing services or accommodations not provided by our staff. Individual Services Plan (ISP) – On our PWN, we should describe the
services as an Individual Services Plan.
MA Billing(more to come…)
ICD-10 codes must be in place by Oct 1
Will schedule September meetings with groups (OTs, S/L, Nurses, Psychs, PSAs, & others) to comb over specifics
Case managers will not have to make IEP changes to include ICD-10 info.
Providers will be required to use ICD-10 codes on SpedForms as well as documenting ICD-10 codes on a separate sheet/form for the student file.
