WELCOME BACK EVERYONE
Students returned last Tuesday with a wealth of stories and beaming
smiles, to embark on another exciting chapter of learning
opportunities. Last Monday, teachers were involved in their own
professional learning at the SPARKE combined Staff Development
Day, thinking around the broad and ever-evolving theme of Science
& Technology. There were a number of speakers and opportunities
to attend workshops facilitated by a range of non-school based
facilitators, local teachers and principals. Congratulations to Mrs
Beer and Mrs Cloete from our COS group for leading an action-
packed hands-on EV3 Robotics Coding workshop which enthralled
those in attendance. Thank you to the staff at Orange East for
organising the day and a big round of applause to the delicious
chefs from the Nashdale P & C community for catering for this event.
PEER SUPPORT INAUGURAL NEWSPAPER FASHION PARADE
Thank you to our senior students for leading the inaugural Peer
Support Fashion Parade which took place on the last day of term.
This was an exciting event which allowed the creative talents of our teams to dress students with
only newspaper pieces. There were winners from the 3 categories; creativity, functionality and
style, with some fascinating and weird accessories, hairstyles and other bizarre objects included in
the parade. Thanks to Mr West for leading this wonderful event and a special mention to our
judges, Mrs Allcorn and Mrs Dwyer, who had the unenviable task of selecting the winners.
Results were: Creativity — Bull Ants
Style — Fire Ants
Functionality — Ghost Ants

SCHOOL ADMINISTRTIVE MANGER INDUCTION CONFERENCE
Last term, Mrs Dwyer attended the 2-day School Administrative Manager Induction Conference
in Dubbo and Mrs Allcorn, Mrs Dwyer and I were present at Mark Eggleston’s presentation of the
Strategic Resource Management course. Every school receives a Planned School Budget
Allocation Report in October that shows the full school funding allocation including staffing and
operational costs. The report assists schools to develop their own budget and allocate funding
to deliver on the strategic directions in their school plan. Next week our COS principals and I will
be present at the Rural and Remote Conference in Wagga Wagga, where we will reconnect
with colleagues and friends from our far and remote southern areas of the state.
HITLER’S DAUGHTER WORKSHOP
The Monkey Baa Theatre Company’s Teaching Artist, Michael Cullen is
presenting a workshop for our senior students based on Jackie French’s novel,
“Hitler’s Daughter” in week 3. Switching between 1940's Nazi Germany and
contemporary Australia, this award-winning show tells the story of Hitler's
daughter through the eyes of four young friends. Monkey Baa first
brought Hitler's Daughter to the stage in 2006 and it continues to go from
strength to strength. We value and acknowledge the unique opportunity to
engage in this drama workshop with talented Monkey Baa artists.
COMMUNITY DROUGHT PROGRAMME AND HOLIDAY WORKS
Major works continued throughout the holiday period with painters, electricians, school staff, tree
surgeons and P & C volunteers delivering on a range of internal and external designated
projects. We would like to thank Greg Collins, who ensured a number of painting tasks were
finished, Bruce Smith and his team of tree surgeons who climbed, chopped, chipped and
mulched whole trees and branches for our gardens, and Jonathan Rolfe who completed the
wiring for our new water tank. In addition, Peg Rudd and Craig Whiley built new seats, painted
stools and reconnected our water feature donated in memory of Ian Henry. We would also like
to thank Ian Bruce, our P & C President, who gave up his valuable time to ensure works were
completed before our students returned last week.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART COMMENCES
This term, you will hear the rhythmic sound of skipping ropes beating against the cement in the
quadrangle area of the school. Each year Jump Rope for Heart attracts more than 300,000
school students in more than 1,500 schools around the country! Students will build on skills to
improve their strength, gain confidence and stamina whilst having fun with their friends. Family
and community members are also invited to practise their skipping skills with the children which
will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:40 pm. Good luck skippers!

SCHOOL SPECTACULAR DANCE WITH ANGE AND KACIE
The whole school will be Dancing Like an Egyptian and in
Gangnam Style, in preparation for the amazing OSSA School
Spectacular in Term 4. We are delighted to welcome back to our
dance studio, Ange Galbraith and Kacie Herd, who have embraced this opportunity with
enthusiasm. Preparing 46 students to perform a synchronised dance routine, along with
costumes, accessories and makeup is an enormous challenge! Please support your children as
much as possible in preparation for this event. Thanks again Ange and Kacie for your expertise
and extraordinary talent on the dance floor!
WELLINGTON EISTEDDFOD UPDATES
The Wellington Eisteddfod Verse Speaking competition commenced this week with our largest
number of entries in a wide range of categories. Thank you to Mrs Hubbard who has been
instrumental in leading this opportunity for our students. On Wednesday Years 5 and 6 will be in
Wellington for the group recitation. In Week 4, Mrs Turner will be leading our whole school choir in
the Small Schools section. The students have been working extremely hard to master the two
songs for this year’s event. Don’t miss out on listening to their beautiful voices on Wednesday 14th
August!
ROOSPONSIBILITY
This semester the students in Year 6 will take on extra
responsibilities as our school leaders. As part of our social
skills program, each Year 6 student will be allocated 10
‘Roo’ tickets per week to hand out to students they see in
the playground exemplifying happy, friendly and inclusive
behaviour that helps support a positive playground. Year 6
students have already been busy looking for students living
up to the school expectations and tickets handed out so
far include, “playing fairly”, “including others in their
game” and “sharing playground equipment”. Good luck
to the lucky student nominations who have the potential
to be picked on Mondays to win a well-earned prize from
the dippy box!
COUNTRY WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION COUNTRY OF STUDY COMPETITION
It’s not too late to get your Papua New Guinea entry in for the CWA Country of Study Competition.
All projects, posters, craft items and flags are due by WEDNESDAY 14th AUGUST!
REPORTS AND 3-WAY INTERVIEWS
Reports were sent home at the end of the term, along with an invitation for parent-teacher
interviews to proceed early this term. We are looking forward to sharing your child’s
achievements and learning goals in our 3-way interview process in weeks 2 and 3. Please ring the
office to make an appointment for an interview. We appreciate and value your support.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN RESOURCES
Congratulations on the Earn and Learn sticker collection which came from all corners of the
state. We have redeemed our collection on educational items and would like to thank Mrs
Dwyer for the resources she has purchased for the school.
THE POTTIE FAMILY DONATION
Thank you to the Pottie family for their kind donation of the credenza which has been
appreciated greatly by Mr West and the K/1/2 classroom. Mr West has been busy redecorating
and rearranging his classroom and has enjoyed having extra storage space in his room.
TROOPER BEAR RETURNS
World War 1 Trooper Bear has returned to school in his brand new glass
cabinet. We are very appreciative of Mr Don Bruce’s skills to complete this
special job and thank him for his time and dedicated efforts. Trooper Bear
joins our school community to remember our fallen each year.
MRS MCFARLAND’S SEWING SCHOOL
Walk into the STEM room on a Tuesday or Wednesday lunch time and you will find a group of
senior girls happily chatting and sewing. The girls are each making a scrunchie, a toiletry bag, a
soft toy and an item of clothing. However, this year the girls are cutting out the patterns
themselves and learning to read, interpret and follow the instructions to make their items. Great
work girls and thanks again to Mrs McFarland for leading this project!
