Equity Increases

2011 increases received by faculty and exempt staff, continued push for classified staff increases

• Faculty Increases: 3% allocated, 0-8% increase range

• Exempt Staff Increases: 2% allocated, 0-15% increase range

• Classified Staff: While classified employees’ wages and benefits are set by the Legislature, we believe they should not be set without our influence. Fort Lewis College will continue to communicate with legislators in Denver, working to persuade them that our classified staff, by their efforts and abilities, are deserving of increased pay and benefits.

Milestones

• Dr. Erin Lehmer, assistant professor of Biology, was featured in ScienceNews, USNews, and The New York Times with articles on sudden aspen decline and the effect on deer mice carrying the sin nombre virus.

• In April, the Fort Lewis College School of Business Administration (SOBA) was reaccredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). This accreditation sets the FLC School of Business Administration among the premier business schools in the world.

• Dr. Sarah Roberts-Cady, associate professor of Philosophy and Gender and Women’s Studies, was awarded the prestigious Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award.

Milestones

• Fort Lewis College is one of the Princeton Review’s “Best in the West” colleges. This puts Fort Lewis on an elite list of 121 colleges in the western United States that are above-the-rest academically.

• The new Biology wing of Berndt Hall was certified LEED® Gold in January. The Biology wing is the second new building to earn LEED Gold status after Animas Hall, the College’s newest residence hall, was certified last year.

• Dr. Barbara Morris began her work as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Fort Lewis College in July.

• Ross Nelson was hired as FLC’s new director of Alumni Relations this summer.

• Gary Hunter will become Fort Lewis College’s new director of Athletics effective September 1, 2011.

Milestones• Skyhawk Men’s Basketball defeated Mesa State in the first round of the 2011 NCAA

Division II Central Regionals and gave their longtime head coach, Bob Hofman, his first NCAA tournament victory in seven tries.

• Skyhawk Women’s Basketball maintained the highest team grade point average of any women's basketball program in the country, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced in July.

• Among the highlights for Skyhawk Cycling was a 2010 MTB National Championship, an individual MTB title for Sage Wilderman, and an individual Road title for Alister Ratcliff.

• Senate Bill 484 remains in consideration and supported by the Colorado delegation and many Native American tribes and organizations. The effort to get this bill passed continues.
