Quick presentation overview
You’ve heard about UC minimum transfer admission requirements in other presentations today, so these are not covered here. For more information, our Counselor Transfer Admission website URL is posted on the slide.
However, the question is whether minimum requirements are sufficient for admission. Are they enough?
• Many campuses require some or all major preparation for admission• Some campuses calculate a major-prep GPA and include that as part of their
selection criteria• Some campuses expect completion of IGETC or GE/breadth requirements for
selection purposes (NOT an admission requirement, but may be a selectionrequirement)
• Some majors may require supplemental information, such as a questionnaire,
• Please note that all UC campuses have may have different selective or capped majors, and campuses may require different major preparation for the same/similarly-named majors.
• Your first resource to finding the right major preparation for our majors should always be ASSIST.org.
• And, we’ve provided links to campus specific websites which contain major preparation details to provide you with a source of guidance as you advise your
• Students often enter CCC with plans to transfer to a 4-year institution• But, keeping track of all of the various requirements can derail even the best-laid
plans!• UC created a tool to help prospective UC transfer students stay on track to transfer.
• TAP is designed to help CCC students track and plan their coursework for transfer to UC
• TAP is also the tool students will use to apply for a TAG with one of the 6 participating UC campuses
• Students with TAP accounts may also be invited to attend transfer programs and events on UC campuses
• Allows students to monitor completed and planned coursework. • Helps track the student’s progress towards meeting UC minimum requirements for
admission • Allows UC staff to communicate important information to the student • Provides CCC counselors access to UC’s evaluation and advising comments to create
a more transparent way to advise students
• This is the landing page, where students can create a UC TAP account, or login to their existing UC TAP account.
• All students who plan to apply for a TAG must create a UC TAP account.• Any student can create a TAP account – not just CCC students.
How the UC Transfer Admission Planner works – step-by-step
After step 3, students can also enter demographic information that will not be used for admission selection, but could help UC communicate more effectively with students. For example, students with dependents, AB540 and LGBT students can indicate they would like to know more about resources at UC for them. Students can list first-generation status, allowing UC campus programs to invite them to events for
• Encourage your students to create their TAP account as early in their college career as possible
• This is a snapshot of the navigation bar that students will see when they login• This navigation bar appears on every page of TAP so students can easily switch from
tab to tab• Students can login at any time to update coursework, grades, test scores, and
personal information
• Some students have attended multiple community colleges and even four-year universities. We need all courses listed in TAP to give the best estimate of student’s GPA and transferable units.
• Please ensure students input courses in correct terms and chronology. If a course is placed in the wrong term, it could be deemed as out of sequence or a duplicate course, which could affect UC transferable units and eligibility. Encourage your students to also check for accuracy when entering in the course department and course title.
• This is the Counselor login page• Any CCC counselor can request an account, but a designated individual at each CCC
must authorize access to be granted
• UC TAP allows UC and CCC counselors to intervene early in a student’s preparation. • Pre-evaluating the student’s coursework can help shape an academic plan that most
benefits the student. • UC TAP facilitates one-on-one advising, allowing the counselor to see all of the
student’s previous coursework during the advising session. • TAP also has a reporting tool to allow you to see statistics about your CCC.
• Counselors can do pre-evaluations through TAP before the TAG process. • Allows for accuracy and a view to the TAP/TAG evaluation tools – feeding directly
from assist.org - to provide transparency when advising students. • The goal is to ensure students will not only meet minimum transfer requirements,
but that they will be competitive and gain admission to a UC campus
• The TAG Application Status label can be confusing if a student has not submitted a TAG.
• Although the TAP Tool says “TAG Application Status,” students without a TAG will have the note that “No TAGs currently require review.” This indicates that the student simply has a UC TAP account. The counselor can claim the file and review the student’s coursework and progress toward transfer.
What is the purpose of claiming a TAP profile:

count towards GPA and unit calculations Non-UC and non-CCC courses:
The TAP tool cannot determine transferability – Okay to leave as undetermined or
Some reports are just numbers/data, some are student list reports.
TAG reports include both status and outcome reports

• A TAG is a contract that outlines the courses to be completed, GPA that must be maintained, and other campus guidelines.
• Other institutions may offer guarantees, but UC guarantees both the campus and the major at 6 campuses.
• Please remember that the TAG is not binding. Students with an approved TAG can still decide to accept admissions at another institution
• Requirements for the TAG vary within the six participating campuses. Some of the
• A student may submit a TAG to one of the following campuses: Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz
• Multiple TAG applications cannot be received • Please ensure TAG campus has student’s preferred major as change of majors are
not guaranteed following admission• The guarantee is only for the major selected and campus selected.
• The UC TAG program is gaining momentum. More students apply for TAGs each year.• Because TAG students are academically strong, more students are admitted through
TAG. In this case, more applications doesn’t correspond to a decrease in the number of students admitted.
• Overall, 85% of students admitted to UC through TAG enroll at UC. • 61% graduated within two years, compared to 57% of non-TAG transfer students
who graduated within two years.
• All campuses expect the first UC-E to be completed by Fall 2019 or earlier if the student is planning to transfer in Fall 2020.
• Even for non-TAG applicants, most campuses expect the first UC-E to be completed by fall, although that’s not a “requirement” like it is for TAG applicants
• All campuses require the UC-M course no later than Fall 2019 (UCI is even earlier) for TAG applicants to Fall 2020.
• We recommend that students start early on the UC-E and UC-M requirements.• It’s also important that students list any non-transferable English or Math courses
they may have taken prior to enrolling in the transferable UC-E/UC-M so campuses can see their pattern of performance.
• Students need to review the TAG requirements for their specific major at their TAGcampus, because GPA and course requirements will vary
• Also note that TAG requirements are subject to change
How the UC Transfer Admission Guarantee works:
Student must select the term and year and UC campus for which they are applying for a TAG. After the campus is selected, the full details of the TAG criteria, as well as a TAG checklist, will display.
The TAG application utilizes the information already populated in the UC TAP tool.
• Screenshot of how students apply for TAG by selecting a UC campus and the major• When the filing period for the selected term is open, a TAG Checklist specific to the
campus will appear • Students must agree to the terms in the checklist (such as completing a certain
number of units at the CCC, maintaining a specific GPA, etc.) in order to submit the TAG
• Notifications may appear that will provide feedback as to what may be missing or incomplete on the TAG application.
• Students have the opportunity to go back and input missing coursework before submitting the TAG application.
• In this example, the student started a TAG application for Fall 2019, didn’t submit it, and it now planning to submit a TAG for Fall 2020.
• You can check the TAG status and determine which counselor at your CCC is reviewing a particular TAG application
• If a TAG application is under review, you cannot claim it for your review
• Applying for a TAG is not the end of the process; students must also file the application for admission.
• Students who submit a TAG but not the UC application for admission will NOT be offered admission to any campus.
• Bonus: The course information from UC TAP can be easily imported into the UC application, eliminating the need for “double-work”
• This is a general timeframe of admission for the University of California in any given year
• Consult the UC TAG website for campuses accepting contracts for the winter/spring term
• Please note that various campuses can have internal deadlines regarding specific documentation submission and supplemental application submission
• Official AP and IB test scores of 3, 4, and 5 are due by July 15 to award transferable
• Please note that all UC campuses have may have different selective or capped majors, and campuses may require different major preparation for the same/similarly-named majors.
