Memorial Day services will be held at the following cemeteries Monday, May 27, 2019:
• 9:00 a.m. Friesen (West) Cemetery
• 10:00 a.m. Bethesda Mennonite Church Cemetery
• 11:00 a.m. Mennonite Cemetery.
• In the event of rain, a joint service will take place in the Bethesda
sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.
Flowers and other arrangements may be left at the cemetery for 10 days following Memorial Day. Any items left after June 6 will be disposed of. Just a reminder, church offices will be closed tomorrow. Ladies swimnastics will again be sponsored by Bethesda Women's Ministries this summer. We will meet at the Henderson Aquatic Center on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s, beginning June 3 through August 12 from 11:00-11:45 a.m. July 17, 19 and 21 we will meet at 12:00 p.m. due to swimming lessons. Exercises will be based on stretching, toning, strengthening and walking. You need not know how to swim or get your hair wet! It is a fun time of exercise, combining friendship and laughter, with a "Word for the Day." Anyone in the community is invited to attend. So please come join us and bring a friend! The Sunday School Committee would like to invite any high school or college students interested in being a teacher or assistant teacher during the summer months to contact the church office or Blaine Friesen. Color yourself inspired! A summer Sunday school class will begin June 2, led by Jan Friesen, using the Women’s Bible Study Coloring Journal. This journal features art pieces to color along with journaling lines to record your thoughts and prayers. Each lesson includes a Bible reading, key scriptures, life application, reflective questions and prayer. This class could also be a time to create Bible journaling artwork in your Bible. The journal can be viewed on the table outside the church office.
June 3-7, 2019 Vacation Bible School “Who is My Neighbor?” Neighbors are more than the people who live next door. Neighbors are more than the people in our families or communities. Through five New Testament stories, this year's VBS will lead children on a journey to discover more about God's great love. From looking at how to be a neighbor to diving into what it means to live out our faith, this series will lead kids deeply into Bible stories focused on God's care and compassion for neighbors close at hand and around the world. Join us as we discover neighbors near and far! VBS Teachers/Volunteers: The office is able to provide printing of any materials you might need. You are encouraged to have all printing/copying completed the week prior to Vacation Bible School (May 28-30) since the first day of VBS can be a bit frantic! Thank you! The Vacation Bible School celebration will extend into the Sunday school hour Sunday, June 9, 2019, with a reception and Open House. Sunday school will not be held. VBS Music: This year’s VBS music is FREE and online at http://www.bmcfaithformation.com/vacation-bibleschool.html. Start learning the songs today! The VBS committee is looking borrow yard decorations for the week of VBS: kids lawn chairs, kid-sized picnic table, patio lights (any shapes or colors) and tiki torches. If you have any of these items that we could borrow, please contact Christa Janzen at [email protected] or 574-304-7948. We need volunteers! If you would like to help out with this important children's ministry, please follow the registration directions below. Even if you can't commit to all 5 days, there is still a place for you to help! Just mark the days you can help on the registration form. *ALL volunteers must register online, even if you filled out a paper form earlier in the year. Central Plains Mennonite Conference
The Annual Meeting of Central Plains Mennonite Conference will be held June 20-23, 2019, at Iowa Mennonite School, Kalona, Iowa, with the theme “A Covenant People: Living in the Holy Spirit.” Registration forms and packet information are located on the table outside the church office. If you are interested in attending as a delegate, please sign up on the east bulletin board or call the church office. Bethesda is entitled to 20 delegates. Each adult registering needs to fill out a registration form. Online registration and payment by credit card are available as well. Registration prices increase significantly on June 1, so be sure to register early! 2019 Mennonite Church (MC USA) Convention The 2019 Mennonite Church USA (MC USA) convention, referred to as MennoCon19, will be held July 2-6 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Visit convention.mennoniteusa.org for more information and to register. Swan Lake Christian Camp invites people of all ages to join us for a weekend of fun at family camp, June 14-16, 2019. MCC Haiti is looking for a communications coordinator to use their multi-media skills to share the context, challenges and solutions of local partners more broadly. MCC needs your help to replenish supplies in our Material Resources Center! The following items are running low: black and white spools of all-purpose thread, minimum 250 yards, for Sewing Kits (each kit has 3 spools of each color in it). Lotion (minimum 10 oz.) for Returning Citizen Care Kits and sanitary napkins, thin maxi, any count, for Relief Kits. MCC only distributes complete kits, so when we are low on one item the processing of the entire kit comes to a halt. Items for kits can be dropped off or shipped to MCC Central States, 121 E. 30th, PO Box 235, North Newton, Kansas 67117. Questions? Opportunities to serve with MCC Nicaragua and Honduras: Do you excel in an admin support role, helping to create and implement plans? MCC has two opportunities for you to consider, starting either July 15, 2019 (in Nicaragua) or January 6, 2020, (in Honduras). The close date for these positions is May 26. High School Youth: Following worship today we will continue our conversations in Luke in the Crossroads Coffee House.
Catechism Students:
• Makeup Testimony Retreat will be held Wednesday, May 29, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
• Meet in the Powerhouse Room. Bring your “God’s Story, Our Story” book, Bible, journal and a blanket.
• June 2: Follow up on retreat and discuss Chapter 7 (parents there is one final video to watch with your youth).
• June 9: We will meet with the deacons during the Sunday school hour and hand in testimony drafts.
• June 16: Baptism and Communion during worship and a “Welcome Social” during the Sunday school hour.

Your child/children are invited to attend Swan Lake Christian Camp at NO CHARGE this summer through a gift from Bethesda’s South Fellowship Hall Sunday school class! *When registering your child for camp, check the appropriate church scholarship amount. Bethesda Mennonite Church will be billed at the end of the summer for those who attended. Registration for camp is available online. Please go to www.myslcc.com and register by May 1 to receive a free t-shirt. Bethesda’s Permission for Medical Treatment and Transportation forms are also available online at www.bethesdamc.org. Click the MINISTRIES tab and go to SWAN LAKE CHRISTIAN CAMP.

the only way the office staff has of knowing that your child will
be attending camp and possibly need transportation.
