Maths The Maths tasks this week will all follow the same structure.

We would like you to watch a video clip from White Rose Maths (links provided on the slide for each day) before completing the accompanying task – you can print the sheets out or just write the answers in your workbook. The videos no longer contain a ‘Flashback 4’ so please complete these from the slides. The worksheets are also no longer available on the website so we will upload these to Dojo.

There is a mixed focus for the lessons this week which all recap things we have done before – area and fractions.

Please make sure you click on Summer Term – Week 7 for the videos this week! (I know it says w/c 8th June but we are a week behind!)

There will also be some tasks assigned to you on Mathletics and you can use Times Table Rockstars.

You can also find the times table grid we usually complete every Tuesday at the end of this PowerPoint if you want to time how quickly you can complete it!

Rhythm Of The Rain

As I sit and listen to the rainMy thoughts just seem to driftFloating along with the rhythmThe rhythm seems to quietly shift

It's warmth, so pure and rareThe pitter patter on the streetOh, so steady so soothingYou can really feel it's beat

When I sit and listen to the rainI always have my foolish grinThen out I go, and look upWith a self assured tilt of my chin

To again be the child I wasTo be again young and happyYes, let the rain come on downAs it soaks and consoles me

I'm always happy in a gentle rainIt brings my soul to lifeRemembering days O so long agoWhen there wasn't any strife

English – Read the poem on the next slide ‘The water I drank today’

The poem describes the process of the Water Cycle, in that the water we drink each day may have been used for many other purposes/ways before we drink it e.g. snow on the mountain tops, ice in a cold drink or the water used in the Queen’s tea!

1. What other uses can you think of? Write down a list

2. Write your own ‘The water I drank today’ poem using your list. You can make it rhyme but IT DOES NOT HAVE TO! Remember it is better to write something that makes sense with great vocabulary rather than put any old word in because it rhymes!

3. Please share your poems on Class Dojo

English – Poetry - The Water I drank today

The water I drank todayis the same water where seals play.It was once Henry the Eighth’s bath, and used to water the flowers and grass.

The water I drink is the same water you drink,It may have been used to create an ice rink. It was this water my dog rolled in at the park, and is also home to a great white shark!

The water I drank last night,is the same water I used in my water fight! It is the same water the Queen uses for her tea, as she sticks out her little pinky!

The water I drank came from the oceans and seas, and can be found deep in the roots of trees. It may have come squirting out of a whale, before being collected in Jack and Jill’s pail.

The water we drink is all the same you see, as it collects in the rivers and runs free,as part of the great water cycle that never ends,I get to share plenty of water with all of my friends!

English – The Little Raindrop by Joanna Gray

• Watch the story being read at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcQm-supS5M

• What geographical process is being described?

• It is the Water Cycle, told from the point of view of a raindrop. It travels through the air, in puddles, rivers, streams and oceans meeting different animals and natural phenomena such as a rainbow.

• We would like you to write your own water cycle story from the raindrop’s point of view. You can choose to either write in 1st person as the raindrop or write the story as a narrative in 3rd person.

• Think about the different stages of the Water Cycle and what you might see, hear & touch on your journey. Include descriptions of these using exciting and adventurous vocabulary.

• Try to include relative clauses e.g. The raindrop, who had travelled 10 miles in a cloud, was now feeling cold as he rose higher into the air.

English – The Little Raindrop by Joanna Gray

• You have today and tomorrow to write your story, you can begin planning today and write the opening and then continue tomorrow.

You could annotate your ideas on this picture for each stage of the cycle e.g. Evaporation – feeling hot, lifting into airCondensation – meeting other water droplets, being blown along, getting colder as getting higher into the airPrecipitation – falling onto rocks, meeting frogs, resting on a lily pad etc

This week we would like you to have a go at designing and making a boat out of cardboard that will hold a 250g weight.

Follow the instructions and make sure to wrap your boat in either baking paper (wax paper) or foil as cardboard is not very waterproof! Have a go at sailing your boat and see if it can with hold the weight. Think back to our Science lesson on Floating and Sinking earlier in the year to help you with your design.
