Whealey Term 3 – Week 5 Date: 11 th August, 2015 Respect, Responsibility and Relationships. Message from the Principal. App Subscribers – 569 K-2 Playground Our new Kindy Patch continues to take shape with one of our “sound walls” finished, our “buses” on schedule for this week and the sandpit requiring planning on the sharp edges before we can order the sand. Our helpers from Barabarang also moved mulch for us last week, providing a “safe fall” base for the K-2 playground equipment. More plans are underway to make this an attractive and useful play area. A huge thank you for the pots and pans donated last week. Walgett trip Our partnership with Gosford City Council for the cultural and sporting exchange to Walgett last week proved very successful with the Rugby League team taking out the Ricky Walford Shield and the 2 netball teams placed 4 th and 5 th in the Jenny Wright Shield. Mr Collins co-ordinated the visit of children from over the Gosford local government area and was very pleased with the behaviour, sportsmanship and attitude of all students involved. Ten Woy Woy South students helped to make up the numbers for the teams. Brayden was selected as the best forward of the competition, Zac the best back and Soraya best attacking player in netball. Well done to all these students and to all the students from other schools who attended. P&C meeting Our next P&C meeting is on this Friday morning commencing at 9.00am and will include presentations by two photographic companies being considered for our business in 2016. I will also be presenting a snapshot of how the school is progressing against the milestones set out in our 2015 -2017 School Plan. Please join us if you can and share your thoughts. PILP Program Last Friday, we were visited by a Senior Speech Pathologist and an Occupational Therapist who will be upskilling two of our teachers and working within the school for an eight week period. We were one of only four schools who successfully applied to be included in PILP (Partnerships in Inclusive Learning Project) and Mrs Parker and Mrs Reid will be working very closely with these professionals not to provide individual therapy but to provide practical classroom strategies that can be shared across the school. We were successful in our application in recognition of having 14 staff who completed the “Speech and Language” On-line intervention course last year. We are very fortunate to be involved in this program as well as the Medicare Local program which has allowed us to refer 17 of our students through to local psychologists for assistance. Juvenile Diabetes We were able to forward a cheque for $997 raised through a mufti day – the sale of merchandise and loose change collections at lunch time – A top effort from everyone! There are still some pens and pins available for sale from our front office which we will continue to sell and send off the money at the end of the term. Our Jeans-4-Genes day was also very successful – see Mr Cox’s entry in this newsletter. Tell Them From Me It is time again for the Student, Parent and Staff versions of the “Tell Them From Me” surveys to be completed. We will schedule these over the coming weeks and parents will be supplied with a log in and password to allow their participation. We had over 80 parents last year complete the survey and will be making computer facilities available later in the term for those parents who wish to participate but do not have internet access. Last year’s information, gained from the Parent and Staff surveys was coupled with Term 1 student data to determine the future directions of the school. The student survey is repeated in Term 3 to check the validity of the data and whether students’ opinions have changed. Year 4 – 6 students have a note with this newsletter which can be returned if you do not wish your child to participate. Yellow forms Thank you to those parents who have returned our yellow forms asking for feedback regarding our Assessment and Reporting procedures. All feedback we have received so far has been very positive, letting us know we are on the right track. If you still have a form you would like to return, please have it to your class teacher or the front office by Friday this week. Mrs K. Whealey Principal In the interest of children’s health, please do not smoke near our school gates. Thank you for your consideration of others

PSSA Softball The stage 3 softball girls participated in their first PSSA game against Brisbania on Friday. Each member of the team did a fabulous job of representing their school, showing respect and good sportsmanship despite being defeated on the day. I wanted to congratulate each member of the girls softball team for their enthusiastic attitude and for having a fantastic game despite the scoreboard. Mrs V. Bain.

Positive Behaviour For Learning Congratulations to all the students who will be participating in our Buzzing Bee Day this Thursday. What a fantastic day it will be for all students to celebrate their positive behaviour! This term our vouchers are:

• Wear Your Footy Jersey • Wear a Scarf and Beanie • Wear Slippers In The Classroom • 30 minutes Computer Time • 30 Minutes Free Time • No Homework For A Week

Only students who have traded their Bee Awards for a voucher can participate in that activity. Students choose the voucher that appeals to them the most. Talk to your child about what voucher they chose, perhaps they have two vouchers. Bee Awards are given out for students following the 3 R’s Respect, Responsibility and Relationships. This week our PBL lesson is about showing our 3 R’s in the office. Students are encouraged to use their best manners and observe adults who model Respect, Responsibility and Relationships in the office area. PBL Team Central Coast Choral Festival Ticketing Information Tickets for this year's Central Coast Choral Festival at Mingara will go on sale soon. Unfortunately, Ticketek at Mingara has closed down and Mingara has not provided an alternative ticketing system for the festival to use. As such, the festival has had to source an external ticketing agency. Details of this agency will be sent to all schools shortly (once they have been confirmed) and will be forwarded to choir families in a letter through each school. A major change this year will be that tickets will ONLY be available for purchase ONLINE. There will be two performances for each show: Matinee performance starting at 3.30pm - ticket cost $10 per ticket Evening performance starting at 7pm - ticket cost $15 per ticket Once information is sent to your school, we advise buying tickets early to avoid disappointment - they sell out fast!
