RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT WITH THE CIQS
The Reciprocity Agreement between the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) andthe Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) was signed and exchanged at the PacificAssociation of Quantity Surveyors' (PAQS) Congress, which was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 23-26 July 2011. The ASAQS was represented by Prof. Tinus Maritz and the CIQS by Mr. Ian Duncan.This Reciprocity Agreement will remain in force for an initial period of 3 years from the date of signaturethereof, where after the agreement will be subject to review and renewal by mutual agreement of therespective parties.

Founded in 1959, the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors is the national professional bodyrepresenting the quantity surveying and construction estimating profession in Canada. The CIQS is thegoverning body for six regional affiliated associations in Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland andLabrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.
The agreements with other organisations can be viewed under the "International" section of the CUG.

If you attended the Western Cape CPD lecture on the 22nd September you may just spot yourself inthe audience!
The ASAQS WC Chapter CPD Seminar Series kicked off on Thursday 22 September at the RatangaOfficer's Club, Ratanga Junction, Century City.
More than 50 mainly QSs gathered to hear Professor Paul Bowen of UCT share preliminary resultsfrom recent research conducted among QS and other professionals. First on the agenda was stress -how stressed are built environment professionals in South Africa - and the conclusion was that builtenvironment professionals suffer from workplace stress. Dr Helgo Schomer, well-known radio and TVpsychologist, then addressed another research finding, namely that built environment professionalsgenerally do not employ appropriate stress management measures, by presenting stress managementtechniques best suited to burnt-out prone professionals in a highly entertaining manner. After the teabreak, Professor Bowen presented the preliminary results of his survey on corruption in the constructionindustry and the seminar was concluded by a panel discussion on Professional Ethics, convened byJohn Powell. The panel members, Ellie van den Hoven, Osman Narker and Dave Lindenberg, engagedthe audience in a reaffirmation of what Professional Ethics are supposed to stand for.
