Johnny Depp returns as swishy bucca-neer Jack Sparrow for the fourth installment of the hugely successful Disney movie fran-chise based on its enduringly popular theme park ride.
This time around, Capt. Jack finds him-self on a quest for the fabled Fountain of Youth, the leg-endary spring with magical powers that 16th century Spanish explorer Ponce De Leon was supposedly seek-ing when he “discovered” modern-day Florida.
The plot involves Jack’s nemesis from the three pre-vious movies, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), plus several new characters. Ian McShane smolders as the villainous Blackbeard (Ian McShane), whose zombie crew is managed by his spitfire daughter, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), a wronged woman bearing a roman-tic grudge against a certain love-em-and-leave-’em swashbuckler.
There’s also an earnest young shang-haied man of the cloth (Sam Chaflin), who falls in love with a mermaid (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) with a streak of kindness that sets her apart from all the other other
bewitching, bloodsucking sea temptresses.
Keith Richards, who makes another cameo as crusty Capt. Teague, gets off a great line that riffs on his real-life reputation as a hard-living rock and roll star.
There’s plenty of sword-play, lush on-location tropi-cal scenery, a handful of effective 3-D gimmicks and
several elaborately choreographed action sequences, including Sparrow’s dashing escape from British soldiers, a duel that spreads throughout a rum warehouse, and a murderous nautical assault by mermaids.
Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, both along for the first three rides, aren’t part of the cast this time around, giving everything a whiff of freshness.
But after four movies, “Pirates” is begin-ning to feel a bit like a soggy, waterlogged plank that’s been afloat in the salty

Dear Savvy Senior: What can you tell me about restless leg syn-drome? I’m 58 years old, and my wife thinks I may have it because I sometimes wake her up at night kicking my legs. — Restless Larry
DEAR LARRY: If an irresist-ible urge to move your legs has you kicking in your sleep, you may indeed have restless leg syn-drome (RLS), a common, under diagnosed condition that affects around 10 percent of Americans. Here’s what you should know.
Do You Have RLS?RLS is a neurological disorder
that causes unpleasant sensations in the legs (usually in the calf area) and an irresistible urge to move your legs when resting or
sitting still, and the symptoms usually get worse with age. The main complaint with RLS, other than it being uncomfortable, is that it disrupts sleep.
While researchers have yet to
pin down a specific cause of RLS, they do know of various condi-tions that are linked to it includ-ing: Genetics (it often runs in families); anemia; kidney prob-lems; peripheral neuropathy; dia-betes; attention deficit disorder; and even pregnancy. Do you have RLS? If you answer yes to most of these questions, you probably do.
• When you sit or lie down, do you have a strong desire to move your legs?
• Does your desire to move
your legs feel impossible to resist?
• Would you use the words unpleasant, creepy-crawly, elec-tric current, itching, tingling, pulling, or tugging to describe your symptoms?
• Does your desire to move often occur when you are resting or sitting still?
• Does moving your legs make you feel better?
• Do these symptoms bother you more at night?

Bull’s-eyeThe best way to center a hinge screw hole is with a self-centering bit. But if you don’t have one (or can’t find yours), try this tip from Gary Derzinski of Leavenworth, Kansas. Use the hinge’s screw holes as guides for a small coun-tersink bit. Position the hinge, then bore carefully with the countersink until it just touches the sides of the hinge screw hole. The bottom point of the bored countersink should be the precise center of the screw hole. Then, use that spot as the center point for bor-ing the pilot hole.
I’m on deadline for a second cookbook, which means my mind is a whir when certain dishes come up for review I’ve long adored, but never quite known the history of.
Case in point: the Sloppy Joe!
Who among us didn’t love Sloppy Joe’s as a kid? (Heck, who doesn’t love them today?) McClain School in Lebanon, no lon-ger stands, but in my mind, “Sloppy Joe” days are for-
ever etched in my mind. (Ironically, these were usu-ally Fridays as I recall…Maybe the cooks were just as eager to get home and start their weekends as we kids were.)
So basically, we’re talking hamburger meat with a flavorful sauce, and slopped down on a ham-burger bun and sloppy as all get out!
But just who was this Joe that gave us this slop-py, tasty, mess of a meal?
Well, stories vary as to who the original “Joe” was, but each is rather colorful.
One source claims he worked in a diner in Sioux City, Iowa. Another traces him to a bar in Key West, Florida that is, to this day
called “Sloppy Joe’s” (I like this story best because Ernest Hemingway is said to have helped pick the name, having named it after a favorite bar of his in Havana, Cuba!)
Either way, the sand-wich (and its name) dates back to the 1930s, which makes perfect sense when you think about it, as it was a classic depression era food (i.e. a great way to stretch your hamburg-er budget. Stretching the menu to feed a few more was an easy fix thanks to Sloppy Joe.

• Do your ever have involuntary leg movements while you are awake? Tips and Remedies
While there’s no cure for RLS, there are some things you can do to alleviate the symptoms. Depending on the severity of your case, here are some tips and rem-edies that may help:
• Get a blood test: Studies show that iron or vitamin deficiency can cause or worsen RLS. Your doctor can easily check this with a simple blood test, and may recommend sup-plementing your diet with vitamin E, iron, vitamin B12 or folate.
• Check your meds: Certain drugs that treat high blood pressure, heart conditions, nausea, colds, allergies and depression can make RLS worse. If you take any of these, ask your doctor if something else can be prescribed.
• Watch your diet: Pay attention to what you eat to see if it may cause or increase your symptoms.
• Limit caffeine and alcohol: Both of these can make symptoms worse.
• Stretch: A good calf stretch and a strong mas-sage may provide some relief.
• Take a bath: For some people a hot or cold bath can help, or try using a heating pad or ice pack.
• Try compression: Wrapping ace bandages or wearing compression sup-port stockings around the problem area has also been known to help.
• Exercise: Moderate
exercise (20 to 30 minutes three or four times a week) can also relieve symptoms and help you sleep better. Exercising late in the eve-ning however can induce symptoms.
• Reduce stress: Stress can aggravate RLS. Meditation and yoga are good relaxation techniques you may want to try, espe-cially before going to bed at night. Treatments
If the tips or remedies don’t improve your con-dition prescription medi-cations may help. Requip
(or its generic Ropinirole) and Mirapex are two drugs approved by the FDA to treat RLS, but there are sev-eral other drugs that treat other conditions (dopami-nergic agents, sedatives, anticonvulsants and pain relievers) that have also been found to be helpful. Talk to your doctor about these options, or consult an RLS specialist (see rls.org to locate one) or a sleep specialist (see sleepcenters.org). Send your senior questions to: Savvy Senior, P.O. Box 5443, Norman, OK 73070, or visit SavvySenior.org. Jim Miller is a contributor to the NBC Today show and author of “The
Savvy Senior” book.
