Week of May 11th

Welcome to Online PE for the week of May 11th. This week is all about bike helmets. Bike helmets were

not widely available when I was growing up. In fact, I don't remember seeing a bike helmet until I was in

high school. Thankfully, they are available now in many stores in our area. Bike helmets are relatively

inexpensive.(Especially compared to a visit to the doctor.) Every year I have a student tell me, "I don't

need a helmet, I am a good rider." I remind them it won't matter if they are the best biker in the world, if

a distracted driver runs them off the road. Each Fall, during bike safety, I hear countless stories from

students who have had a close call because of a driver not paying attention. By the way, the state of

Florida requires that all cyclists aged 16 or younger wear a helmet while riding.

ZOOM

Thank you to the Kindergarten teachers who invited me and Ms. Salesses to Zoom calls with their classes

last week. It was so great to see all of your smiling little faces. Afterwards, I was thinking that any of

you kids who ever come across the beginning of the Brady Bunch will think the family is on a Zoom call.

Stars of the Week

The Stars of the week for May 11th are Johannes and Acadia. Coach Beener said, "They are always

outside doing something active." They play games, go running with dad, and go on family bike rides. I

am happy to hear to everyone wears a helmet to be safe. Keep up the great work Johannes and Acadia.
