Food Hampers

Based on Availability All Community Members who reside in Fort William First Nation,

who have not already accessed and who are low-income and/or in need, will be able to access Social Service’s Food Distribution once a month. Quantities are limited and at the discretion of the Social Services Manager. The hampers will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

The Food Bank will be accessible to the other low-income community members after the third Monday of every Month. You must phone ahead to check for availability and schedule an appointment with a Social Services Staff Member to pick up your hamper. Hampers are only provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Position Title: Community Fire Officer (CFO) This is a re-occurring five (5) month contact position (April/May to August/Sept).

Position Purpose: To participate as a team member under the general

supervisor of the Fire Operations Supervisor (FOS), provide leadership and to liaise between the Aviation Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) and the Fort William First Nation (FWFN) community regarding forest fire concerns.

Position Background: The CFO provides an essential level of protection in First

Nation Communities across Northern Ontario. Within their Community, the role of the CFO is to report, respond to and prevent forest fires. This position will be employed by Aviation and Forest Fire and Emergency Services (Ontario) and will be based out of the Thunder Bay Fire Management Headquarters located at 1580 Arthur Street West.

Major Responsibilities: • Providing five (5) day a week coverage / contact with the community (weekends

as required); • Liaising with Fort William First Nation Band Council and providing regular updates

of fire activity, including the daily fire hazard; • Assisting in the delivery of a Forest Fire Prevention Program;: • Participating in the Fire Management Headquarters work program and assisting

with escalated activities when fire risk in the community is low; • Maintaining and updating community profiles, acquiring information on location

and type of local values; • Reporting local fires and through consultation with the Sector Response Officer

(SRO) and Thunder Bay Fire Department assisting in the suppression of low complexity fires in a safe and efficient manner;

• Carrying out administrative duties associated with the program; • Assisting the council in any related matters, ensuring the Chief and Council are

aware of all aspects of the program and updating as required; • Having input into the development of the program and suggesting any special

programs or activities that may benefit the community directly; • Developing a Community Profile which will assist with prevention and response

functions within the community.

support, education and advocacy of health and health care within the community. The CHR will possess strong knowledge of various health prevention and treatment practices including, but not limited to, traditional and herbal approaches.

Major Responsibilities: • Participate in the research, development and maintenance of community health policies. • Provide health care and prevention education within the community including schools, community

centers and patient homes. • Liaise between patients, families and the community to ensure patients are informed of their

condition(s) and prescribed treatment(s), and are receiving quality care. • Liaise with health care providers in an effort to remain current with health issues. • Perform health care treatments as necessary and within capacity. • Perform frequent and accurate patient evaluations and respond appropriately. • Coordinate care with clinics, outside health care providers and hospitals. • Educate and guide patients in how to perform tasks they can do themselves. • Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required. business organizations as well as the general public. • Provide coordination for all aspects of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special

projects and programs. • Participate and collaborate with other offices. • Build and maintain positive relationships and contact with federal, provincial, and municipal

departments as well as personnel, public officials, public and separate school representatives, the general public and community and business leaders.

• Prepare and present annual summary reports of activities and results. • Coordinate meetings, conferences and public speaking engagements in an effort to educate the

community and raise awareness. • Work in coordination, via a series of meetings, with the Director of Economic Development, Economic

Development Manager, and FWFN Chief and Council as a means of consultation with FWFN. • Prepare business letters, newsletters, band council resolutions, work plans, budgets,

recommendations, applications and other related paperwork. • Other duties shall be assigned as required. Qualifications: • Minimum (3) years’ experience OR a Secondary School Diploma in a business related field, that would

Position Title: Controller Permanent Position Position Description: The Controller shall hold responsibility for managing the overall

financial operations of Fort William First Nation (FWFN), and will provide accurate information to the Director of Finance & Administration.

Major Responsibilities: • Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll,

accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting. • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in

accordance with established legal regulatory and organization policies and procedures.

• Prepare, analyze and present quarterly and annual operating results for each department.

• Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making. • Provides advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems,

JOB POSTING Position Title: Family Support Worker – Permanent Position Description: Under the general direction of the FWFN Chief and Council, with direct supervision

provided by the Health Services Manager, the Family Support Worker (FSW) gathers information on and assesses family functioning problems.

Responsibilities: • Gathers information relevant to the client’s problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting

with caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires. Assesses the information gathered to identify client problems, needs and risks. Develops and implements an intervention plan within program guidelines.

• Participates in the development, modification and evaluation of client service plans with the integrated case management team. Participates in integrated case management meetings on a regular basis to report clients’ activities and progress.

• Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.

• Provides parenting skill building to clients on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behavior management.

When a prisoner escaped, and ten men were chosen to die of starvation, a priest prisoner by the name of Maximillian Kolbe offered to take the place of one of a young man with family - his suffering and self-sacrifice are a modern example of Christ's gift of His life 2000 years earlier - but Jesus' atoning sacrifice that applies to the forgiveness of our sins even before we were born.
