Principal's ReportDespite the various external factors seeking to prevent us running the 2017 Cross Country, Mr TeRangi and sever-al other committed staff who assisted managed to run a very effective trial around the school grounds on Friday 26 May. Thanks go to Nathan and his team for getting the job done! Next step is the Regional Cross Country held in Coolah - good luck to all of our representatives. Speaking of representatives, as you may know, the NSW CHS Hockey Carnival was held in Tamworth at which a number of our students and parents participated or assisted with the running of the event.

Our recently retired staff member, Mr Greg Allen for-warded a message not long afterwards regarding these students which I wanted to share with our community and can be found of Page 2 of The Buzz.

In addition to thanking the students and parents mentioned, I want to thank Greg Allen for his ongoing

support of Tamworth High School and local sport - his efforts are greatly appreciated by all!

Also on the sporting front, I want to mention the great achievements of our Senior Girls Football Team, capa-bly lead by coach Mr Desmid, who have won their way through some tough opposition to the Regional Final to played in the very near future. This is already a great achievement and we wish the team well in the final. Finally, our captains Georgia Taggart and Bradley Goward travelled down to Sydney with Mr Stone to participate in the Annual Leadership Program at Parliament House. Thank you from Mr AllenThank you for allowing/facilitating the participation of THS students at the NSWCHS Girls Hockey Carnival this week. They were certainly a credit to the school, specif-ically: North West Team - although only winning one game Sarah Willis, Meg Whitten, Rebecca Willis and Dakotah Barnett-Suey, along with the rest of their team earned praise from their coach (Kim Kelly of Armidale High) for their determination, sportsmanship and generally for being “great kids”. Umpires - Toby Whitten umpired eight games over the three days, including a semi-final. He did an excellent job and earned praise from team coaches for the quality of his umpiring. Lachlan Butler was called upon to umpire two games at short notice and acquitted himself well (he also assisted as a control room official). Canteen helpers - Sarah Hofman, Bianca Mulligan and Shianne Spurway worked all three days (all day) in the canteen and couldn’t be praised enough by Sue Maher (Tamworth Hockey). In fact Sue insisted that I let the school know how good they were.

Lucy Hofman - worked for two days in the canteen and in the timing and scoring of games. She was always keen

to help and was a big help to the younger students who were helping.

Sarah Aslin, Baylei Ross and Jaiden Duff helped on Wednesday and were great - three very quiet and polite girls who constantly sought me out to see how they could help - delightful girls who highlight what is good about Tamworth High. All of these students were a credit to their school. Additionally an ex-student, Natalie Willis, worked as an umpire and an official for the three days - taking time off work to help her “old” teacher and coach.

Parents were also very supportive - picking up and drop-ping off their children. Alison Hofman prepared food for the canteen and Don Willis worked tirelessly from 7am each day preparing the hockey centre and helping me in any area that I needed. Tamworth High was given special mention in the official speeches at the official dinner and at the carnival presen-tation ceremony.

Winning Start to the SeasonThe 2017 Open Boy’s Hockey Competition on a Wednes-day night has started again and the Tamworth High School side has continued where they left off last year by winning the first three games of the season so far.

The team remains strong again this year with the nucleus of the team being the same as last year. We have recruit-ed some new players to the fold with the likes of Bailey Warren and Tom McGrath joining the party. Also we have three students from Caryina who have joined the team to learn some of the finer points of the game. These players; Wilson Penney, James Hutton and Curtis Field have set-tled into the team nicely and are developing a cohesive playing style with the other boys.

Results so far are:- Won 3-0 against Barbarians- Won 6-1 against Farrer- Won 4-1 again against Barbarians

Next up the boys have a game against Duval high school in the ‘North West Knockout’ competition. We wish them well and hope that they get the win!
