Yesterday you came up with a lovely drawing of your very own pirate character and today you will be creating a character description for him/her.
What is a character description?
⚫A character description describes how your character looks like. It can also describe your characters personality. I,e are they a grumpy, angry pirate or are they a caring, jolly pirate.

On the right hand side write down how your character is on the inside.
Check the next few slides for character description word mats.
Task 2
Can you write your ideas in full sentences?
Mrs. Kingir’s example:
My pirate is called Rose Swashbuckler of the High Seas. She is a strong and fierce pirate with long brown hair. She has freckles on her face and wears a black eye patch. She is tall and wears a long blue dress with hearts on it. She has a colourful pet parrot that likes to sit her shoulder.
Day 3- draw a setting for where your pirate lives
⚫Where does your pirate live?
⚫What kind of ship does your pirate live on?
⚫Is it a clean/ pristine ship?
⚫Is it a broken/horrible ship?
⚫Does the ship have any special features?
Time to brainstorm your ideas!
Let’s Draw!⚫Now that we have brainstormed our ideas we can
begin to draw our marvellous pirate ships!
⚫Remember to take your time and think carefully about the colours you will be using.
⚫What will the water around the ship look like? Will there be waves? Will there be any animals lurking around?
⚫Maybe you can even draw your character on board too!
Day 4- Write a setting description
What makes a good setting description?
To have a good setting description we need to be able to make the person reading it imagine they were there!
We need to describe the setting using our 5 senses: •Sight•Smell•Taste •Hearing •Touch
We also need to use plenty of adjectives to make our writing interesting and descriptive!
Features of a pirate ship
Task
Can you write a setting description to describe your pirate ship?
Example
My pirate ship is massive and it is made from strong wood. It has a really tall mast in the middle with a scary jolly roger flag waving at the top. The deck is creaky and the splashing waves make it difficult to stand straight! The splashing of the waves is as loud as thunder. I can smell horrible seaweed and I can hear loud seagulls flying across the light blue sky. I can see a gigantic great white shark lurking in the clear turquoise water.
