Issue 2 Term 1 Week 6 Monday, 2nd March 2015 Issue 13 Term 4 Week 4 Tuesday 6 November 2018 Dear Parents, Carers and Families Welcome to our new look newsletter! We are always looking for better ways to communicate with you. This year, we moved to an electronic-only newsletter but we are concerned that our families are not able to access the important information we wish to share. Please take the time to complete a short survey about our newsletter so that we can make decisions that suit your needs. You can access the survey through the web link. Don’t forget to download the Skoolbag app. We use the app to communicate last minute news, advice and emergency messages. You will also find notes and important dates and messages on the app. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GJD3JCF The last seven weeks of school for 2018 are jam-packed with fun and exciting learning opportunities for our students. Please note that the last day of student attendance is Wednesday 19 December. The Year 6 clap out will occur on this day. We have commenced our two transition programs. Last week we welcomed our 2019 Kindergarten cohort and their families at Kindergarten Orientation and our Stage 3 students enjoyed their first of two weeks at Lake Macquarie High School for the HeadStart Year 7 transition program. Both transitions are important milestones that set our children up for future educational success. If you are aware of any friends or family members in our local community who have missed enrolling their child for Kindergarten 2019, please encourage them to make contact with the school. Enrolment numbers are important for forming classes next year. Once again, I would like to congratulate our Premier’s Debating team. Although unsuccessful in their debate against Rutherford, our team ranked second out of 164 Hunter and Central Coast primary school teams. This is an amazing achievement. I would like to extend a huge thank you to the dedicated and expert Mrs Leigh Williams who has coached the team to this success. At the end of last term, a panel conducted a job application process to fill the vacant Assistant Principal position at our school. I am so very honoured to announce that Mrs Belinda Gilmour was the successful applicant for this position. Although Mrs Gilmour already holds the Instructional Leader position at our school, the Instructional Leader position is a temporary position that ends at the end of 2019. The Assistant Principal position secures a position for Mrs Gilmour at Booragul Public School and offers her permanency within the Department of Education. This position is very well deserved and I invite you to join with me in congratulating Mrs Gilmour. Early Stage One – Oakvale Farm and Fauna World KH and KS had a marvelous time on their excursion to Oakvale Farm this week. We had a full itinerary including milking cows, feeding baby lambs, patting koalas and riding a tractor. Most of the students said their favourite part was feeding the kangaroos, riding on the big bus and playing on the massive equipment. Students learned about how to care for animals because they help provide goods and services for us. Miss Hogan and Mrs Smith Kindergarten teachers

Kindergarten Orientation

Future Booragul students visited our Kindergarten classrooms on Wednesday for their first Orientation session. They had the opportunity to bond with their buddies and Kindergarten teachers, as well as participate in engaging stories and craft activities. We are currently working on a dance to perform for the parents at the last session.

Sporting Achievements Congratulations to Indi Tam from 4/5L who participated in the Girls 11 years, 200m sprint last Wednesday at State Athletics. Indi represented herself and our school with pride and achieved a personal best in her race.

Volunteers Needed

As you can see, the canteen needs some help, but there are flexible ways that help can be organised or provided by you so consider helping out and get in touch with Sue in the canteen. Thank you.

New Menu

Lakeside Lunchbox has launched a new menu with changes in line with the NSW Govt. Healthy School Canteen strategy.

To help school children make healthy choices when buying food from the school canteen, the food available must now be 75% everyday food and 25% occasional food. The everyday food on the Lakeside Lunchbox menu has been marked with a green tick and this is the food you should encourage your children to choose. If they select an occasional food as a lunch order, they will be limited to one serving size per day. Chips only sold at lunchtime.

If you require any further information, would like to view the new canteen strategy documents or volunteer your help in the canteen, please contact:

Sue Robin (Canteen Supervisor) or Corrine Commandeur (Canteen Convenor)
