Week 2 Term 2 2017 SAFETY TEAMWORK ACHIEVEMENT RESPECT The first week back for the Term saw, the students settle in well to their schoolwork. Between now and Week 3, for Years 7 and 9, we are having a NAPLAN focus, where students are having lessons reminding them of the various aspects that will be covered in the NAPLAN examination. This will help the students do their best in this year’s NAPLAN. This is particularly relevant to the Year 9 students as if they achieve a Band 6 or above, they will automatically meet the minimal requirement for literacy and numeracy, and therefore will be eligible for the HSC. The majority of students now wear school uniform

every day and we are being complemented on how

good it looks on a daily basis, however, there are a

few students who still do not have all the required

items of uniform. All Parents should be aware that

next week we are having a Uniform Blitz. Students

have been warned on assembly that they all need to

be in school uniform- this includes leather shoes,

jumpers and jackets and track suit pants.

For those who do not need financial assistance, the

uniform shop is open this Thursday morning, if items

of clothing need to be purchased. If the reason why a

student does not currently have any of these items is

financial, parents can apply for student assistance to

fund these purchases, as long as they are currently

receiving a government benefit. The paperwork is

available from the front office and can be picked up

by a student, by a parent, or parents can ring and

arrange to have it sent home. Please note that for

warmth, students are able to wear Windsor High

sloppy Joes, Woollen jumpers and the Microfiber

jackets. Any student who wears the wrong colour

jumper will be asked to remove it, and provided

wherever possible with an alternate second hand

jumper. If a student wishes to wear a scarf, it should

be only black in colour. If students do not wear the

Windsor High Track suit pants, they may wear plain

black track suit pants but they cannot have writing on

them or any colour strip on the sides. We would

appreciate all parents and caregivers supporting the

wearing of school uniform at Windsor High School.

I also mentioned on assembly this morning the value

of gratitude, that each of us should find something

each day that they are thankful for. I shared that I am

very thankful that I am the Principal of the best

school in the Hawkesbury!

SRC NEWS

Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia’s most

important national occasions. It marks the anniversary

of the first major military action fought by the

Australian and New Zealand forces during the First

World War. ANZAC stands for Australian and New

Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces

quickly became known as ANZACS, and the pride

they took in that name endures to this day. On April

the 25th, our school captains and parents were

involved in the ANZAC Day Dawn Service, held at

Macquarie Park and Windsor RSL. Memories of those

who served the armed forces were commemorated.

Two of our school captains (Nathan Walker and Jade

Taylor) were given the opportunity to lay a wreath

while Jade Taylor was also given the opportunity to

read the “Prologue’” to the large audience in

attendance. We thank Windsor RSL for providing light

refreshments after the events.

Media Release 1st May 2017

Open Day at Windsor Fire Station

Firefighters are encouraging people to visit Windsor Fire Station for the Fire & Rescue

NSW (FRNSW) annual Open Day on Saturday, 20 May.

Windsor Fire Station will be open from 10am to 2pm and families are encouraged to

come along and meet their local firefighters and learn more about fire prevention.

A range of free activities will be on offer, including firefighting demonstrations, station

tours and fire safety presentations. Firefighters will also be able to provide advice on

installing or replacing smoke alarms, and preparing a home fire escape plan.

Children will be able to see the fire engines and firefighting equipment up close – always

a highlight of this much-anticipated day. They’ll also be able to take home a

“Brigade Kids” activity booklet, which teaches them vital fire safety lessons.

This year, FRNSW is focusing on fire prevention in the kitchen, urging people to

“Keep Looking When Cooking”.

Station Commander Kim Roche said: “Almost half of all house fires start in the kitchen,

usually when people fail to keep an eye on the stovetop. Regrettably, hundreds of injuries

and occur every year from cooking-related fires, and people have lost their lives as a

result.

“With winter coming, Open Day is a also great opportunity to talk to the experts about

replacing smoke alarms.

“We’re encouraging residents to replace their outdated alarms with the latest 10-year,

lithium-powered smoke alarms.

“Why not come along to Windsor Fire Station on Open Day and come and talk to us

about how you can reduce the risk of fire destroying your life,” Station Commander Kim

Roche said.
