On Thursday 4 April the P o s s u m a n d K o a l a classes were lucky to have Casey Tangye come in run a Dance and Movement session. Casey set up 5 stations in the hall including a p a r a c h u t e , m u s i c a l instruments, baby hula hoops for the arms, sparkly scarves and hats and large hoops on the floor to jump in. In small groups the ch i ldren danced and moved in time to the music. When the music stopped the

groups rotated onto the next activity. We played some large group games pretending to be fierce animals moving along the ground to scare the teachers! All the children formed a long train and using big movements in time to the music they visited lots of theme parks - even Disneyland! It was such a fun and energetic class with all the children participating eagerly and we hope to do this again sometime soon.

Thank you to Casey (Sabre’s mum) who came in and did all these wonderful activities with the children.

CHILDREN CROSSINGAs you may be aware, the Sunshine Avenue Campus has recently had a school crossing installed by the Tweed Shire Council. This crossing has been put in place to help children and their families cross the busy road safely. The crossing operates when the orange flags are displayed, usually before and after school hours. All motorists MUST STOP for pedestrians crossing when these flags are in place. Kindergarten has been shown how to use the crossing correctly with adult supervision. The safety of our students is top priority and the children are aware they must cross the road with an adult. Children under 10 years simply don’t have the capability or judgment to handle many pedestrian situations. We kindly ask that you take advantage of opportunities in day-to-day routines to discuss road safety with your children (eg. on the way to the local shop or going to school). Whenever crossing roads, it is a good idea to talk about when and why it is safe to cross the road with your children so they can gain a good understanding of road safety issues. For any further information about the new school crossing please refer to the parent information sent home via email or visit www.rta.nsw.gov.au Remember: STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! THINK!

Stage 3 NewsAs part of 6A’s inquiry into Antarctica, we’ve been busy investigating the wildlife that can be found on the continent. We worked in small groups to research baleen and toothed whales and organised our findings using Notability on our iPads. We demonstrated our understandings by creating artworks, posters and mini documentaries using Art Set, Visualize and Explain Everything. Here’s a sample of what we came up with!

Though they are not deep divers they can dive 100m or more But usually dive 30m to hunt.

Killer whales produce clicks and sounds that resemble moans, trills, grunts, whistles, squeaks, and creaking

Adult killer whales give birth to a single baby (only once were twins recorded) about every 3-10 years. They start breeding at about 14-15 years of age

-their nose is their blowhole -they have a dorsal fin like a shark - they have VERY! Sharp teeth to rip its pray apart -The melon is their strong forehead in the shape of a melon -their eye patch is a patch of white near their eye but their eye is not in the patch

We’ve just completed a project on Antarctic Explorers. Part of the task was to complete a series of diary entries from the perspective of an Antarctic explorer from the early 1900’s. This is an exerpt from Jett’s Sir Robert Falcon Scott journal:‘It was amazing to finally set foot on the driest, coldest place on earth, thinking back to all the photos and stories that other scientists have told me. It was like my dream finally coming true after all these years. The penguins greeted us by sliding into the water and then coming shooting out of the holes in the ice, nearly hitting us.”

6A Explorer DiariesThroughout the term we’ve created a range of digital and hand created artworks based on Antarctica.
