There are only a few large exterior renovations home owners undertake – of that
roofing is typically the most important. Shaun Mayhew, Sales and Marketing Manager at Penfolds Roofing, is quite familiar with the industry. He’s been around the family business most his life and has worked with his Father for the past 10-years. Penfolds Roofing prides itself on its 77-year track record installing
roofing. There are very few companies that have been around for that length of time and especially so in the traditionally “transient” roofing industry.“Choosing the correct roof for your home is extremely important, many people forget it is your first line of defence against the elements” he says.At Penfolds Roofing, the focus is not only on installing a quality roof, but also on choosing the right roof for a particular home.The company has five sales offices all with a Show Room

These are located in North Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and Abbotsford in addition to their Vancouver-based head office for precisely this purpose. “It’s nice and local,” says Mayhew “It allows our estimators to be close to all the different neighborhoods’ they work in and it also makes evening and weekend appointments possible”.Both of the company’s North Vancouver estimators have been with Penfolds for over 13 years. “They’re extremely experienced when it comes to every different type of roofing option available which can be very tricky on the North Shore with their wide diversity of homes and traditionally extreme weather conditions” says Mayhew.The company offers a wide variety of options ranging from asphalt shingles right up to cedar shakes, metal and flat roofing. It’s the EcoRoof Rubber Shakes and Slate that have Mayhew excited. The product is made from recycled rubber. Each home roofed with Eco Roof saves an average of 300 to 400 tires from the landfill. In the manufacturing process colouring is added to the mix that provides an “attractive” product that is colour through that will not scratch or dent.“It’s also extremely environmentally friendly, in fact its LEED certified” says Mayhew.
But that’s not even the best part.The rubber shakes closely mimic the look of high-end products like cedar shake or slate. It’s a long-lasting, walkable, and can even be cleaned without doing damage to the product. It’s the only truly washable roofing option out there, according to Mayhew. Most importantly is that the EcoRoof is very competitively priced which adds to its allure “A great looking roof that will likely last forever that is competitively priced. You just cannot beat that combination” says Mayhew.Penfolds is the only company in the Lower Mainland that installs EcoRoof Rubber Shakes. Since they started working with the product 14 years ago, they’ve installed thousands of rubber shake roofs.With all that said the company also employs and trains its own workers to ensure a quality installation every time. SETUPSet your barbecue up for indirect AND direct medium heat.
COOKINGGrill drumsticks over direct heat for 10 minutes.
Add wood chips directly to charcoal and transfer drumsticks to indirect heat for 20 minutes with the lid closed.
Brush lightly on all sides with House Of Q Rock’n Red barbecue sauce and continue to grill for another 15 minutes, turning occasionally and brushing with more sauce.
The drumsticks are done when the juice runs clear.
Toss drumsticks with a generous amount of House Of Q Barbecue Rub 30-60 minutes prior to cooking.
Soak two handfuls of mesquite wood chips for 3o minutes in warm water, then drain.

Basic Cruising is the introductory level for keel boat sailors. The syllabus is set by CYA and to receive a basic cruising certificate you must pass the written and practical tests. The course is run over five days, with a short 1-hour classroom session each day and 7 hours on the water in the Club's J22 keel boats. The course includes using the outboard, getting a boat ready to sail, handling sails, man-overboard procedures, anchoring and basic sails, man-overboard procedures, anchoring and basic sailing equipment and terminology. This course includes the PCOC if you don’t already have it.
Sail Canada (CYA) Basic Cruising This course offers two 5-hour days spent on the water with an instructor/coach. You will cruise the waters of Howe Sound and experience the fun and excitement of keelboat sailing. You will be intro-duced to the basics of steering, using the sails and generally just having fun on the water. No experience is necessary!
