Time travelling
It’s time to start writing!
There’s no WAGOLL. As I explained, the last term of Y5 is a chance to really show off your
own skills. Here are a few openings that could get you started...
It was music to my ears. The TARDIS was working its magic, and transporting me to my next adventure. To
some people, the noise may sound like it is about to explode. Like it is screaming in pain and agony, but to
me it is shouting in excitement. Until everything shut down. Darkness cascaded inside. Silence.
“Where shall we go next?” announced The Doctor with a look of excitement and energy you could only
find in a young child. His eyes darted across the control panel of knobs, dials and flashing lights.
“Well…” I started. Anywhere in time and Space? The future? I wonder what has happened? No. I don’t
think I want to know how it all ends.
“In class, Mr Cooper taught us about the Battle of Hastings. We ran up a hill pretending to be Normans.”
The Doctor turned on the spot, and his eyes lit up. It was as if I was starting into thousands of constella-
tions and galaxies. A smile crept across his face.
The Space Race - Make your own Mars Rover...
Although the Space Race is over, there is still so many historical milestones about our exploration of
Space.
One of those is the Mars Rovers that - over the past decade - have been vital to our understanding
of Mars and its history.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ll-VHYxWXU take a look at this short clip telling you about what one of the rovers
found along with real footage from what it saw...
Amazing, this web page https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/learn/project/make-a-
cardboard-rover/ will show you how to make a cardboard box move with just a
rubber band!
Give it a go! You could even try out different wheel shapes. Why do you think they
use square wheels for this model?
