Study Periods NOT Free Periods

For every 1 hour of lessons do 1 hour of outside study.

e.g. 4 hours per AS subject x 4 subjects = 16 hours

Suggested time plan Study Periods = 5 per week Weeknights = 1.5 hours x 5 = 7.5 hours Weekend = 3.5 hours

How do we monitor progress?

SID Form – flags up problems and links to P-16 Disciplinary Code

Stage 1 – informal verbal warning Stage 2 – formal written warning (copy to parents) Stage 3 – final written warning (copy to parents) Stage 4 – disciplinary hearing (parents invited)

Challenges and changes

The government want A-Levels to move to exam assessment at the end of Year 13.

Therefore any AS exams done at the end of Year 12 will no longer count towards the two year A-Level.

Subjects are switching to this new system in phases (Phase 1 – from Sep 2015 includes Eng, Eng Lit, Economics, Psychology, History, Art and Sciences)

Our policy is that all subjects will still do the AS exam – good marker & increases flexibility.

Things to think about

Planning for Work Experience in Summer 2014University and course research (Open Days) for

after Post-16CV BuildingNo January exams – culture of resitting a thing of

the past! – Students will sit ‘mock-exams’ here.

Please discuss your son or daughters monthly report with them – all ‘learning conversations’ make a difference.

Bursary

Government scheme to contribute towards the costs of P-16 Education

Guaranteed bursary payments for the most vulnerable

Means Tested – Household income below £30,000 is the threshold.

Can apply for discretionary payments through the year – trips, uni visits, equipment etc.

Pot has been reduced and we are prioritising transport.

Final Thoughts Attendance = Achievement

Simply going to lessons is not enough! Being naturally bright is no longer enough!

Post-16 is a real commitment – Social life, driving and paid employment, whilst important, need to be given a lower priority

Avoid holidays in term time Avoid appointments where possible during college day

Remember students must pass AS to continue to A Level in Year 13

Any concerns – don’t wait for monthly reports or parents’ evening – get in touch!
