Challenge – If you have time try writing a sentence with some of these words. Can

you even include an adjective and/or conjunction in your sentence?

English:

SPaG (starter task to complete before doing the main task below):

Look at the picture below and read the following muddled sentence:

great hada party . We

(Unscramble the sentence so that it makes sense.)

Now add in some more adjectives to describe the party?

Challenge – can you extend your sentence with some conjunctions and more

adventurous adjectives? Can you include a simile or even an adverb to explain how

the children sang?

Main task:

Remember to look here on Seesaw to access the list of Literacy videos (on adjectives,

conjunctions, alliteration, similes, adverbs and speech marks) and the

adjective/conjunction word mats.

We are now going to be working on the story ‘Toys in space’ by Mini Grey. Watch the

story using the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3FZfgyBT5U

Over the next few days we will be retelling this story (the story that ‘Wonderdoll’ told

the other toys).

Today we will retell the beginning part of the story (up to the part where the toys are

in the spaceship and they see the shadow of the alien).

Must

Retell the beginning of the story using some adjectives. Can you use the conjunction

’and’?

First there were in the garden.

They saw a .

The toys went .

They felt .

Should

Retell the beginning of the story (up to the part where the toys are in the spaceship

and they see the shadow of the alien) using some adjectives and the conjunction

’and.’ Start each sentence using a time connective as shown below. Can you also

include the conjunction ‘because’?

First and .

Then .

They felt and .

Next .

After and .

They felt because .

Could

Retell the beginning of the story (up to the part where the toys are in the spaceship

and they see the shadow of the alien) using adventurous adjectives and conjunctions.

Start each sentence in different ways and you can use some of the time conjunctions

as shown below. Can you also include a simile to describe how the toys were feeling

or to describe the shadow they saw of the alien? Can you use some adverbs to

explain how the toys moved?

If you find these tasks tricky try the following activity:

Watch the following handwriting video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NQ6uS8blwY

Say each sound out loud as you see it on the screen and practising writing the letters in the

air. Then watch again and try writing some sounds. Pause the video at any point to give

you some more time. Make sure you choose different sounds to the ones you practised last

week.

Destination Reader

On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays please complete your Destination Reader tasks.

These are all explained and taught in your video PowerPoint. You can complete these

tasks verbally, so you do not need to write down your sentences. However, we are

looking forward to seeing videos of you on Seesaw answering your Destination Reader

questions.

Handwriting

Remember to use the tripod grip. Start with your pencil on the line with a ‘here we go’

lead in line and finish with a ‘flick’.

The following video link will help you to write each letter of the alphabet in the cursive

script.

This week we are going to practice writing some interesting words from our topic work.

Today’s word is wood.

Definition: A material that forms the main substance of the trunk or branches of a tree or

shrub, used for fuel, timber or paper.

Extension: Can you write one sentence or more with the word wood in it and also

extend your sentence with a conjunction?

Hand strength activity: Create a Monster munch peg animal to pick up different

objects from around the home. Today’s idea: paper clips.

Toy Time Travelers – Our Grandparents and Parents Toys

Big Question: What did our parents and grandparents play with

when they were young? Are they the same as some of the toys

we play with today?

recognises them

Question: Thinking about your learning from last week, can you remember the different ways

of finding out about the past? If not here is a little reminder:

Here are some pictures of toys from the 1960’s

Questions to consider:

How many toys do you

recognise?

Are there any toys

you have never seen

before?

What do you think

about the girl playing

with the pram and the

boy playing with the

truck?

Is that the same today or can you play with any toy?

How many of these toys do you play with today?

Were the toys made from different materials?

Are any of the toys in these pictures electronic? Why not?

Activity

Today we are going to talk to our parents and grandparents

about the toys they played with when they were little.

What kind of questions will you ask them to find out about the

toys they played with? Your question has to help you learn

something about the toys your parents and/or grandparents played with?

Use this scaffold to help you create your own questions:

Now you have created your questions you are ready to ask your parents or grandparents for their

answers. You can either record the answers by writing them down, drawing their answers or recording

your conversation on video or a voice recorder.

Which method will you choose? Pick a must, should or could activity:

Must Should Could

Write 2 questions using the

different question starters.

Can you find a picture or draw

one of the toys you found out

about?

Write at least 3 questions using

different questions starters and

record the answers in any way

you choose.

Can you write at least 4

questions using different

question starters and record the

answers in any way you

choose.
