Updates

Over the holidays there have been some big improvements made to our school. These changes have been in some of our classrooms, and in the school grounds. Thank you to all involved.

I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of many teachers who have given countless hours to ensure their classrooms are ready to be buzzing places full of enthusiasm for your children.

Sentral Education have now fixed the text message software glitch and I would like to thank all parents for their patience.

Permission Notes, updates etc.

A variety of notes were sent home today for parents to complete. We kindly ask if these notes can be returned to the school office by the end of the week if possible.

As always, my highlight is visiting classrooms and the smiles on our students today were spectacular.

Staff Development Days in 2019

Please be aware that the first day of Term 3, 2019 will be a normal school day. This is to support the large number of families wishing to attend Agquip without interrupting student learning .

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Welcome back to all students, staff and families for 2019 at Gunnedah South Public School. I trust that everyone has had a restful break and is ready for another exciting year of learning at our fantastic school.

Yesterday, our entire school staff participated in the Gunnedah AECG Connecting to Country. Staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and participated in an amazing array of cultural experiences. Thank you to the Gunnedah AECG, State AECG and all involved. The day was certainly an amazing day full of high quality professional learning that will benefit our students.

Staffing Changes / Updates

It is my pleasure to announce a few staff changes that have occurred over the school holidays. Mr Tyce Fitzgerald (6T) was appointed to our school by DoE Central staffing and Mrs Tiffany Moyo (2S — Term 1) will replace Ms Bianca Small for Term 1 . Please take the time to welcome them both to the South School family.

Last week, I had the pleasure of offering Mr David Silver a permanent position at Gunnedah South. Congratulations Mr Silver.

Technology Upgrades Continue

Today and tomorrow 9 new Smart Touch Screens are being installed in our primary classrooms. This will ensure our students can see the interactive screens in their classrooms with greater clarity. Another 3 boards will be installed in Year 1 classrooms in coming weeks.

Looking Forward – Key Information for 2019

Key 2019 Information:

Friday is SPORTS DAY

All students will have sport on a Friday in 2019. Namoi Partner Schools Sport commences week 6 and all students in Years 3 to 6 will receive notes for sports in Week 2 of 2019.

Assemblies

Regular Stage assemblies will be held weekly on Fridays at 1:45pm (after lunch) each week.

Whole school assemblies will occur at 1:45pm on Fridays (after lunch) 3 times each term. Dates will be advised in the 2019 whole year school calendar that will be sent home on the first day back in 2019. Our first assembly is this Friday.

Teachers and classes for 2019

Please find information on the following pages about our 2019 teacher staffing and class structures. As always, please be mindful that some slight changes might occur as a result of staff movement.

As suggested by parents, Assistant Principals will provide Teacher Release in 2019 in an attempt to ensure classes have fewer disruptions.

Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist in 2019

We are very fortunate to have secured a speech therapist and occupational therapist who will be working in our school every week throughout 2019. We will include an opt in / opt out option on our general permission note.

School Excursions 2019

We have been busy finalising all major excursions for students in 2019. General information and payment plans will be available from day 1 of week 1 2019.

Library

EVERY CHILD WILL RECEIVE A SCHOOL LIBRARY BAG AS PART OF OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY PROGRAM. Our Library Timetable is included in this newsletter.
