Dear Parents & Community

There are only three weeks of school left! You

should receive reports on your child‟s progress in the

coming week. Congratulations to those students who

have received positive reports which are a reflection

of their determination and diligence. For others it is

time to make a commitment to learning and the

benefits that come from co-operation and respect.

Thankfully, the vast majority of children at our school

are respectful, co-operative and positive students.

Last week, Year 6 students from primary schools

within the district were entertained and taught by

various high school teachers. They were a happy

and interactive group of students who enjoyed the

day organised by Mrs. Watson. All students were

given the opportunity to meet and talk with their Year

Adviser for 2013, Ms Erin Thompson.

I have spent an interesting and educational couple of

days visiting, and being informed about, local

Aboriginal culture and heritage. It has been a

learning experience for me which I appreciate and I

thank all of those involved in the program.

If you want to show your children that you are

committed to their education you may like to become

a member of the P & C. They meet on the 3rd

Wednesday of each month in the School Library at

7pm.

FAREWELL MR & MRS BO RHAM

“GG” (Girl Garbage) “Late, Not Great” and “Sydney

Time” are just a few of the infamous sayings of

Deputy Principal Mr. Murray Borham, who will be

leaving Gunnedah High School to take up the

position of Principal, at Portland Central School. Portland is a small town of about 2000 people. It‟s

25km from Lithgow and 50km from Bathurst.

Portland Central is a K-12 school, with approximately

180 students and 21 teachers.

Mr. Borham came to Gunnedah High School with

partner Kylye Hooper in January 2006, after a three

year term as Deputy Principal of Walgett High

School. That same year Murray and Kylye welcomed

daughter, Matilda, to their family.

At the beginning of 2009 Mr. Borham and Miss

Hooper were married at Nymboida, and although

Kylye became Mrs. Borham she continued to be

known as “miss” in typical Gunnedah High School

fashion

Along with the position of DP, Mr. Borham also taught

Year 8 Math‟s and has continued with that same

math‟s group, culminating this year in Year 12. Not

only did this group of students succeed in math‟s, but

also Mr. Borham‟s quotes. Mr. Borham‟s quirky

quotes are common language and have become part

of school culture.

In 2008 Miss Hooper was offered the role of IM

Support teacher, she has developed a great

relationship with special needs students, a position

she loves and hopes to continue in a Bathurst school

next year.

We wish Murray, Kylye and Matilda all the best in the

future. Portland‟s gain is Gunnedah High‟s

loss.....farewell Mr. Borham.....maybe we will catch

up with you on the new “F” word....FACEBOOK!

I look back over the last 7 years here with many,

many fond memories. The opportunity to raise a

family here has been greatly appreciated. The

chance to assist many young teachers begin and

grow in their careers has been most satisfying.

The chance to mentor and develop so many great

students here has been an absolute pleasure. We

leave here with few regrets, looking forward

positively towards the new chapter in our lives.

Thanks to everyone involved at Gunnedah High

School, students, staff and community. We wish

you well in the coming years and hope that you

will not lose touch with us. Never forget to “Make

Learning Your First Priority”.

Murray Borham

Deputy Principal

Cheers!

WELC OME MR BARTL ETT -TAYLO R

A quick hello to all our Gunnedah High School

students, staff, parents and community members.

My name is Mr. Bartlett-Taylor and I will be replacing

Mr. Borham as the Deputy Principal at Gunnedah

am happy to be called Mr. BT.

I have been working as Deputy Principal in High

Schools for the past 8 years, most recently the last 6

years at Duval High School in Armidale.

Having family in the area and a history with the town,

I believe that Gunnedah is a great place and offers

many opportunities for young people to both live in

and work in the community or seek university

education and employment away from home. I am

excited to be here and look forward to getting to know

all of our students, staff, parents and carers and

develop a positive educational relationship to

maximize student learning.

ICE SK ATEING

As a reward for improved behaviour by those

students in the Tutorial Centre, and a treat for

students participating in the Transmedia Workshops,

sixteen Gunnedah High students recently swooshed

and swirled their way around the ice rink located next

to the school. For some students it was their first time

on the ice and while tentative to begin with, they soon

found their way to the centre of the rink! Other more

experienced skaters confidently zoomed all over the

place. Students also enjoyed the toboggan. It was a

pleasure to watch the students enjoy themselves and

demonstrate their best behaviour. Thanks to Mr.

Traynor for the photos. We hope you enjoy them!

Mrs. Wheeler and Mr. Traynor.

PLAN-IT YO UTH PRES ENTATIO N

Wednesday November 28th Mrs. Nicole

Giandomenico, Regional Co-ordinator of Plan-it

Youth presented students and mentors with

certificates of participation. Each student gave a brief

account of what the program meant to them.

Students then presented their mentor with a native

tree and a letter of thanks. The occasion concluded

with morning tea.

Mentor, Phone: Ann Thomas 67420155.
