    INTRO FROM YOUR LTG

    UE III, JULY 2010

    Neepams Newsletter

DIVISION 19, KEY CLUB NEW JERSEY

    Yours in caring and service,

    Neepam Shah

Well, Division 19, we are now in thefull swing of summer! Im sure all of you

are enjoying your vacation and are

not saving your summer work until the

    very end.

During the month of July, I had the

    opportunity to attend Key Clubs

    International Convention in Memphis,

    Tennessee. This was a wonderful

experience, as I had the chance to

attend various workshops that will help

me help you make our Division as

    mighty as possible!

In the first few months of our

Service Year, Division 19 has proven

itself to be among the mightiest. I

have received 100% of CMRFs for the

months of May and June, and all new

officers were trained before the end of

    the school year. Congratulations!

    Finally, please note that from

August 15-22, I will be in Lake Tahoe,

and from the 23-27, I have band

camp. While I will have internet

access during this time, I may be

to respond to emails. Please chec

the Reminders section at the end

    this newsletter for important

    information regarding the second

    PCM, CMRFs, and more!

Feel free to peruse this newsle

In it, you will find a recap of ICON

well as information on the Youth

    Opportunities Fund and MajorEmphasis Program.

    ICON RECAP

Each year, Key Clubbers the world

over converge upon one spot to

celebrate an amazing year of service,

and to welcome in the new one. This is

    Key Clubs International Convention,

and, this year, it was held in Memphis,

    Tennessee from July 7-10.

On the first night of the

    convention, attendees were treated to

    a concert by pop-rock band Relient K,

and spent the next three days traveling

    between workshops, general sessions,

    and caucuses. Workshops covered

everything from various charities a club

can support, to an exploration on the

meaning of life. At the general sessions,

    New Jersey Key Clubbers showcased

their spirit for service as we picked up 11

    Distinguished Lieutenant Governor

Awards, a Distinguished Award for each

District executive, and a best digital

poster award (for J.P. Stevens High

    School). Most importantly, we attended

caucuses and the House of Delegates.

At the House of Delegates, the 2010-2011

    International Board was elected. The

    2010-2011 Key Club International Board

    is:

    International President:

    Xinlei (Tony) Wang, Wisonsin-Upper

    Michigan District

    International Vice President:

    Ikwo Morris, Carribean-Atlantic District

    International Trustees:

    Nick Cornell, Wisconsin-Upper Michigan

    Matt Harper, Missouri-ArkansasCaleb Lapsley, Alabama

    Annie Lewandowski, Pacific-Northwest

    Lisa Nicholson, Pacific-Northwest

    Robert Peck, Rocky Mountain

    David Velasquez, Florida

    Ashley Williams, Carolinas

    Stephenie Yuan, Cali-Nev-Ha

    Nancy Zhang, New York

And finally... the International Trustee to

    the New Jersey District:

    WILL ROBERTSON, from the Carolinas

    District!

    YOUTH OPPURTUNITIES

    FUND

-written by Devan Corona, District Treasurer

    Is your dream service project

just out of reach? Do you have it all

planned out and the man- power to

execute it but you lack the funds?

Maybe you would like to help local

    children through education or the

    elderly through recreation. There are

    thousands of great service projects

    out there and the Youth

    Opportunities Fund (YOF) can help

your turn your dream to a reality.

The Fund is all about financial

support. Your club can be awarded

anywhere from $200 to $2000 of

assistance for your project. But now

you might be thinking, If someone is

just giving out money, there must be

    strings attached. There really arent;

The Youth Opportunities Fund is such

a simple process. All you have to do

is plan, apply, and complete your

project. With those three steps, you

be on your way to one of the most

    successful projects ever!

So you have your project idea,

where do you go from here? Start

    with detailed planning to determine

if the YOF is even needed to fund th

    project. Being economical can

    eliminated many wasteful costs. If

you have already planned and you

club still cannot fund the entire

    project, apply for YOF immediately.

Dont be nervous to apply. Even

    though you have International

competition, the YOF is one of the

    most under-utilized resources Key

Club has to offer. Very few people

apply so if you enter properly, your

chances of winning are pretty good

    (continued on page 3)

Also, there is more than one

    winner. The Committee picks the

projects on an individual basis not

    in competition against one

    another.

    The application deadline is

October 15th and there is only one

funding cycle per year. If you miss

out your project may have to go

on hold. Start by checking out the

    Youth Opportunities Fund

    Webpage where you can find

    previous winning projects and the

    application. The application is only

two pages long and easy to

complete, but here are some tips

on entry. Make an effort to

    partially fund your project without

    the YOF grant; the committee

loves to see that you have put

effort into funding the project by

    yourselves. A precise project

    timeline and detailed line item

budget should be included so the

    committee knows you are

    committed to the project and

have a solid plan of execution.

They only want to fund responsible

clubs! The final tip is a detailed

    application. Chose to be more

    specific rather than less, the

    committee that chooses winners

does not know your areas needs.

    Make sure they understand why

this project is vital to your

    community.

    MAJOR EMPHASIS

    PROGRAM: Live2Learn

-written by Kimberly Lu, LTG Div 17

For the 2010-11 Service Year, the

Major Emphasis Project for Key Club

International is once again Live2Learn. This

    program emphasizes the importance of

education, and clubs are encouraged to

hold activities that promote better grades,

giving back to the community, and the

growth of special bond between a mentor

and his student. Read ahead for ideas on

ways to advocate the Major EmphasisProgram!

    Create posters about Live2Learn.

The more people see it, the more

    theyll want to be involved.

    Create/Show videos.

Create flyers! Flyers are easy to

make and simple. They show the

    information; theyre

    straightforward. People want to

    know what Live2Learn is before

    they get involved.

    Include articles about Live2Learn

    in newsletters or your school

    newspaper.

    Talk to people, especially people

with siblings between the ages o

5-9. Theyll probably want to be

involved in the education of thei

    younger sister or brother!

Work with adults who want to getinvolved. If you want to hold an

    event with an elementary schoo

youll need the aid of a superviso

    teacher, or advisor!

    Speak to elementary school

    teachers. Theyre the ones

    educating our concentration

group. Theyll be the ones who

    help you most!

Participate! Tutor a child or read

    an elementary school class with

    your friends.
