BACKGROUND OF GEOTECHNIQUE
Géotechnique is widely regarded as the most premier journal in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering . It publishes the Rankine Lecture , which is widely viewed as the most prestigious of the invited lectures in geotechnics.
“I recall that , as a young man starting my career , one of my objectives was to have a paper published in Géotechnique . Papers published in Géotechnique have reliable data and rigorous arguments and they are relevant to advances in theory and in practice . Boards of appointments and
promotions know this and papers in Géotechnique are their gold standard .” From the Editorial by Prof. JH Atkinson ( Rankine Lecturer ) in Géotechnique vol. 56, no. 1.
