Chapter President Ms. Amber Morson

Greetings All,

I am Soror Amber Morson and I am ecstatic to be serving as the new Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Epsilon Chapter President! I am a junior, Psychology major with aspirations of becoming a clinical psychologist. I come from a God-fearing family, glued together by love. I feel right at home being a part of my chapter because we love, not only each other but the campus, community, and world in which we reside. I encourage you all to stay up to date with how we

will serve, impact, and embrace our community.

As you all may very well know my home chapter Epsilon Epsilon is making an impact in the lives of thousands, by way of our newly elected National President, Dr. Paulette C. Walker, and our newly elected National 2nd Vice President, Brittani N. Blackwell - both being initiated into our sorority through the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter. I can assure you that our work will not stop there! We humbly pride ourselves on how the well-being of those in our community has been improved as a result of our work. I urge you to continue reading this newsletter, as you have been invited to support and promote the work of Delta that we will have and will continue to perform.

Lastly, feel free to keep us informed with what your respective chapters have planned so we can be sure to support and help work towards the common goals together, as ideal Deltas should. It is not by accident that we were all called to serve, for it is a

way of life that gives hope to those we serve.

Our “State of EmergencEE” Freshmen Welcome Weekend was a huge success. On Thursday September 5th, 2013, we participated in Spartan Remix, which is an event that celebrates the diversity of different organizations on campus. We had a table at this event where students could come and learn more about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. On Friday September 6, 2013, we hosted our “Freshmen Do’s & Don’ts” program where we gathered at the rock and offered freshmen advice on how to succeed in college both academically and socially. Then on Saturday September 7th, 2013, we participated in our community service opportunity where we partnered and helped spread awareness about Habitat for Humanity within the greater Lansing area. With the help of some amazing

Spartans, we were able to donate 40 backpacks filled with school supplies to students of Willow Elementary. So on Sunday September 8th, 2013 we held our Sisterhood / Project BackPack Appreciation Brunch, in efforts to show appreciation to our supporters. During the brunch the participants were able to eat, converse and learn more about and exchange on the perspectives of sisterhood. More recently, we participated in the annual NPHC yardshow. The neophytes of EE did a fantastic job! Here is a link to the video for your pleasure:

NEO SPOTLIGHT!Some of our Neos held some great internships over this past summer.

Jonae King: I was an Outreach & Engagement Intern for Allen Neighborhood Center in Lansing. I worked closely with residents of Lansing's Eastside on how the center could better serve them. I worked directly with people facing hunger or financial insecurities, introducing them to available health plans and referring them to resources available to assist them in finding work, food benefits, or shelter. A critical aspect of my internship was the weekly canvassing in which I went door-to-door

engaging with neighbors and helped start (or enforce) a neighborhood watch, which was much needed after recent break-ins at Hunter Park. I collected handwritten data and electronically submitted them as well as helped to write grants, to assist in the effort to get more funds for the Outreach team.

Ashleigh Artist: I worked as a summer intern in public relations for Amway North America. My internship experience has been, possibly, the best corporate experience I could possibly have had. Being welcomed with open arms and tons of projects, included in major decisions and being able to contribute to discussions has made my experience one to remember and to reflect on in the future. I was able to travel to Portland, Oregon and I

participated in the annual Intern Reverse Career Fair.
