Dear Students and Parents:
It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to teach Algebra 1 and Geometry at East Gadsden High School. My main focus is to assist students in becoming the best math students possible. I will be making every effort to assist students in any way possible. Enclosed in this parent letter are an introduction, supply list, additional resources, classroom discipline policy, grading policy, and course syllabus. Introduction
My name is Mrs. Dortch. This is my 25th year of teaching. I have taught every math subject from basic math to pre-calculus. I am certified to teach Advanced Placement Calculus. I have received numerous teaching awards including receiving performance bonus pay from the state of Florida. I have a professional certificate for math 6th-12th grades from Florida. My undergraduate degree is in secondary math education from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. In 2011, I obtained my master’s degree. I have been married for over 25 years and we have two adult children.
Supply List
Students will need to bring the following items to class everyday: Paper, pencil, folder (2 pockets -3 prongs), calculator (scientific TI-30XS Multiview)
Procedures for Keeping Folders
1. The folder will have two sections class work (e.g. bell ringers, performance tasks, notes, etc.) and homework
2. Place papers in order by date for each section

1. Make-up work will only be given for absences recorded in Skyward. Students will make up on work on assigned make up days.
2. Only in extreme emergencies will late work be accepted.3. Name, date, period are written in the upper right hand corner of your paper. Title on the
top line of paper.4. Students must write the problems (including word problems) and show work. Points will
be taken off if students only have answers. Remember process is more important than the answer.
5. Homework will be given Monday-Thursday.
