MondayDate: 1/11

Continuing on from last week, today we will be reviewing the water cycle poster and delving deeper into where water comes from this week. One of the areas where water comes from is the sky, in the clouds. Today we will be discussing the weather and making a craft depicting a cloud and some of the items that come from a cloud. Sometimes it rains, but it can snow, sleet, or hail. This week we will exploring different forms of water using weather. In the center, we will depict a cloud, with lightning and rain on opposite sides. This will help us remember some of the types of weather as well as some forms of water.

Art: Create a rain cloud and draw water droplets falling from the cloud.

Writing: Use crayons/pencils and paper to trace the letters in their name or other items around the room.

Literacy/Library: Children will use pictures to create a collage of words that start with letter g.

Dramatic Play: Children can pretend to be a meteorologist and give the weather forecast to a friend. What type of weather can we have? Use the supplied pictures and materials to create your own weather forecast.Math: Number of the week (14). Count fourteen items from a bunch. Represent the number on a paper, using various arts and crafts materials.

Science: Create your own lake or ocean and decide what to put inside. Think about what may live inside the ocean or in a lake.Blocks: Use blocks to build or represent the water cycle. Build a mountain, lake, or cloud to represent the different parts of the water cycle.

Another form of water is liquid, like the water we drink. Water comes from rain clouds, which is part of the water cycle as well. Today, we will be depicting a rain cloud and dig deeper into how rain clouds are formed and why it rains. We will also learn that rain is an extremely important part of how things grow and the environment in general. Water helps plants and trees grow, as well as provide drinking water for many animals.

Art: Dip a sponge in blue or white paint to represent snow or rain falling from the sky.

Writing: Dip fingers in paint and trace or write letters based on skill.

Literacy/Library: Children will walk around the classroom identifying objects that start with letter g.

Dramatic Play: Children can clean the fruits, vegetables, and plates in the kitchen. What do we use to clean with?Math: Review our number line. Explore what happens when you move forward and backward on the number line. Do the numbers get bigger or smaller?Science: Build a house with different shapes. What type of shapes do we need to include to make sure the

house is strong?Blocks: Use Legos or blocks to build a snowman or another type of structure we can build with snow.

WednesdayDate: 1/13

Yesterday we spoke about rain and clouds, but how can we protect ourselves from getting wet? We can dress up and use a rain jacket or even hold an umbrella to block the rain. Today, we will be creating umbrellas and discuss their purpose during wet weather. There are many different types and sizes of umbrellas based on a person’s age or preference. We will be designing our own umbrellas today.

Art: Design your own umbrella to help you stay safe and dry from the rain.

Writing: Use magnet letters to match the letters in your name or other vocabulary words. Write down the letters you find or use.

Literacy/Library: Children will use pictures to create a collage of words that start with letter g.

Dramatic Play: Children can pretend to take a trip to the ocean, lake, or pond. What types of activities can we do there?

Math: Represent our number of the week with

raindrops. Then on another paper, draw one more and one less. Count each raindrop to see if the numbers are bigger or smaller.Science: Try to get toys free of the ice. What should we melt the water with? What other tools might we use?Blocks: Use blocks or Legos to create a beach and ocean. What items should we include in the ocean? Think about what happens at the beach during the winter and cold months.

ThursdayDate: 1/14

Another form of water is snow, which falls from the sky under certain weather conditions, such as below freezing. Today, we will be creating play snow and explore its properties. We will then create a craft depicting a snowman, which is one activity people do when it snows. But, if it is sunny, the snow can melt. We will think about: Why does it melt? What does melt mean? We will refer back to our activity last week where we explored melting ice.

Art: Design your own swimming pool, which is another place we may find water.Writing: Try to trace/write words from our unit chart (water). Trace raindrops and snowflakes and then create your own..

Literacy/Library: Children will use the letter book and music to review the special letter’s sound and words that begin with letter g.

Computer: Play a letter identification skill game.

Math: Use dot paint or markers to represent the number 14. Place 14 dots on the paper or trace the number 14 with dots.

Dramatic Play: Children can prepare a healthy winter meal for their friends to eat. What are some foods we may eat during the winter?

Blocks: Look through the books of various sources of

water and try to recreate them with blocks or Legos. Can we create a tunnel or bridge to go around or under water? Use a towel paper or toilet paper roll to create a tunnel and put cars through the tunnel.

FridayDate: 1/15

Finishing up our week, we will think about some other places we may find water, such as an ocean or lake or pond. We will think about some activities that take place on the ocean or on a lake. We will also think about what happens when the water freezes on a pond and some of the activities that we can do, such as ice skating. Children will be presented with pictures of oceans and lakes and will choose to create their own picture by drawing either a lake, pond, or an ocean.

Art: Use shapes to build a snowman and include a hat, nose, eyes, ears, hands, and a scarf.Writing: Use magnet letters to match the letters in your name or other vocabulary words.

Literacy/Library: Children will choose a book and identify words that start with that letter (g). They will write it down and draw pictures besides it.

Dramatic Play: Children can pretend to be an animal and find water to drink or clean themselves with. Make sure to clean your fur and help a friend.

Science: How do we keep our homes clean from germs? Think about different objects to use for cleaning. Draw a picture of some household cleaning items such as a mop or broom.

Computer: Children can choose from Letter identification Game or Counting Game.Blocks: Use blocks or Legos to build a tree with snow all over it. Create a winter landscape using the pictures supplied in the center.

Math: Look around the neighborhood for some shapes. Where do you think we can find more shapes? What shape is a house/apartment building? What shape is a
