Our gym days are Wednesday and Thursday this year. Children should not be bringing in any PE kits at present. It is recommended that your child attends school in joggers, a t-shirt, jumper and suitable shoes on gym days. PE will continue to be done outside, weather permitting.
Children should come to school equipped with suitable outdoor clothing every day as outdoor learning is an integral part of the curriculum.
Please ensure all children’s clothing and belongings have their name clearly marked on them to avoid any confusion or things getting lost.
Children should bring in a healthy snack Monday – Friday and a water bottle filled only with water - no other type of juice!
School dinners should be booked and payed for online through Parentpay.
Children should be brought to the main office if they are late and should be picked up from there if they are being picked up early for any appointments.
The school has a twitter account and weekly tweets about what the P1 children have been learning will be put online for you to see. Follow us on @SighthillS
Anyone who still has photo permission forms to be completed please return them to us as soon as you can.
Any questions? Please let us know and we will do our best to get them answered as soon as possible.
Our school values are:

By using gentle hands and feet Washing our hands when asked to Walking, not running, when inside the school
Respected:
By using kind words and actions Listening to others Taking turns and sharing with others Following adult instructions Remembering our manners (‘good morning’

The children have settled well into Primary 1 and
have enjoyed exploring the activities in their
classroom, outdoor learning and making new
friends! To celebrate success and achievement we
will be using a recognition board, class marbles,
‘Pupil of the Week’, ‘Over and Above’ recognition
bands and school value stickers.

Literacy: We will be developing our confidence to
retell stories in our own words, learning single
sounds and how to blend these together as well as
developing our letter and number formation. We
will continue to practise how to take turns when
listening and talking with others.
Maths: We will continue to focus on counting and
adding collections together using practical
resources e.g. counters and blocks. We will be
exploring 3D objects and learning to tell the time on
both analogue and digital clocks.
Health and Wellbeing: We will be learning to
recognise that we have similarities and differences
which makes us all unique and we will be
developing our ball skills in P.E.
Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL): Our focus will be
Materials. We will be learning to identify different
materials and will investigate how they can be used
for different purposes.

Our Successes & Achievements
Literacy: When listening to stories we have been
learning to discuss our likes and dislikes as well
as identifying rhyming words. We have been
developing our mark-making skills and letter
formation using pens, chalk, natural materials
and digital technology. We have also been
learning to take turns when listening and talking
and learning to use eye contact.
Maths: We have been learning to recognise and
identify numbers, count a group of items and
identify dot patterns. We have also been
learning to sequence the days of the week as
well as describe and be creative with 2D shapes.
Health & Wellbeing: We have been learning to
identify our feelings and are developing our
confidence in sharing them with the class. We
are learning the names for our different body
parts and how we can keep our bodies healthy.
In P.E., we have been learning to move in
different ways and can describe how our bodies
change during exercise.
