Mayor’s Message
I am pleased to present to you the 2020 Training and Education program for professionals working with families in the City of Whittlesea.
This annual training program offers local, responsive, high quality training, education and networking opportunities which assist you in the important role of supporting families.
The training and education events in this year’s program include workshops, one-off training sessions, short courses, bus tours and opportunities to participate in community events.
At the City of Whittlesea we are passionate about supporting children, young people and families to build stronger, vibrant and more resilient communities. As a signatory to the Victorian Child Friendly Cities and Communities Charter, we are committed to consultation with children and young people, respecting their opinions and contribution to decisions about their community and wellbeing.
This program is one way we can support families and I encourage you to take advantage of the workshops and training sessions on offer. We look forward to seeing you at our sessions in 2020.

Playgroup is an informal gathering for babies, toddlers and preschool age children with their parents or carers. It is a chance to share time, play with your child and meet other families within your local community.
The City of Whittlesea Playgroup Resource Team can provide advice and support on:• Finding and joining a local playgroup• Starting a new playgroup• Planning and running a playgroup• Accessing Council’s Supported Playgroup Program
Pop up Playgroups, including nature play activities, will be advertised on the City of Whittlesea website.

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) ServicePhone: 9404 8888Email: [email protected]
The Maternal and Child Health Service is a free service for families living in the City of Whittlesea who have children newborns to school age. Our multidisciplinary team includes Maternal and Child Health Nurses, Lactation Consultants and Early Childhood Professionals.
Our service provides ten Key Age and Stage consultations from a home visit to 3.5 yrs. The visits focus on your child’s health growth and development and family wellbeing. Additionally, your child’s immunisation status will be monitored to ensure it is up-to-date.
The free immunisation program is offered by Council’s Immunisation Team to protect children from serious and preventable diseases. Enquiries regarding immunisation can be made on 9217 2170.
Enhanced Maternal and Child Health (EMCH) ServiceThe Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service provides additional outreach support to families experiencing significant early parenting difficulties. The EMCH service partners with the families to set goals that improves outcomes for the parent and child. Eligibility criteria is assessed, and a referral is required for the Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service.

Baseline for Young People supports local young people and their families, through providing services where young people live, learn, work, play and socialise.
We provide programs that promote resilience in young people, build supportive communities and places and advocate for and with young people. Our programs offer skill development, leadership opportunities, engage young people in civic decisions and social action
At Baseline for Young People we foster an inclusive culture that embraces difference. We believe that young people from a range of different backgrounds and points of view working together we achieve the best outcome for young people and the community.
We are here to provide information to parents, so they can understand what is happening for their teen during adolescence. Our parenting workshops offer strategies that parents can use to strengthen their relationships with their teenager and support the development of happy and healthy young people.
Page 3Early Parenting Programs Many free programs are offered throughout the year by Maternal and Child Health. They are facilitated by health professionals and are offered to further support families in their parenting roles. First time playgroup for children 6 weeks - 12 weeksBy invitation to first time parents
The First Time Playgroup is a seven week program which aims to support first time parents in their new role. Adapted to suit the needs of families, the program can include discussion on the transition to parenthood, sleep and settling, diet, active play and forming ongoing supportive networks. All first time parents are invited to attend a First Time Playgroup soon after the birth

This program is suitable for babies up to 12 months of age. It provides information and support to help parents better understand their child’s sleep patterns and behaviours. Get advice on sleep strategies and settling techniques and gain support to better cope with sleep disruption.

Designed to promote healthy eating and active play behaviours in parents and their children. Get the right start by improving your knowledge, skill and strategies related to your infants first year of development. This program is age relevant to your child’s birth month. Four sessions are offered when your child is 3, 6, 9 and 12+ months of age.

This workshop supports participants to make sense of the behaviours displayed by children who have experienced abuse and attachment disruptions and provides hands-on strategies for supporting their development and recovery.
Trent Savill has been working in private practice as a consultant therapist since co-founding Complex Care in 2008. Trent has been working with complex and high-risk young people in the child-protection system for the last 15 years, providing consultancy to the Department of Communities (Child Safety) and Non-government sector, intensive in-home therapy to children and families, training to carers and professionals, and has prior experience coordinating residential care programs. Trent’s primary role now involves consulting with agencies around their most complex cases and delivering training around the provision of therapeutic care for some of Australia’s most at-risk and vulnerable children.
