INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAYThe International Peace Day was celebrated in the Junior Campus on the 21st of September 2016.
Objectives of the activity:
a) Create an awareness among the children about the world peace and harmony.
b) Involvement and team work among students and teachers to learn more about the importance of peace in today’s world.
Skills developed in students:
a) Tolerance and understanding of multiple cultures around the world.
b) Identify the importance of unity among people, locally, nationally and internationally.
Name of the activity: Observance of the International Peace Day

Students involved: The students of all grades ( Grade 1 ,2 ,3 ,4, 5 and 6). The total number of students involved were 148.
Activity:
The students of Good Shepherd international School, Fernhill campus, celebrated the
International Day for Peace on the 21st of September 2016. The forenoon session of the Day
was presided over by Brig. Suresh Kumar, Senior Vice Principal, Admin. Brig. Suresh unveiled
the Peace Pole, which consisted of the words “May Peace prevail on Earth” written in five
different languages, namely English, Tamil, Filipino, Cayuga and Sanskrit. At exactly 12 pm, the
whole school observed a moment of silence signifying a moment of Peace for all our martyrs,
who’ve laid down their lives for the cause of attaining peace for their country. The Afternoon
session was presided over by Ms. Sheila Alexander, Senior Vice Principal, Academics, and
consisted of a peace prayer, where the students mentioned the names of each religion in
existence and sent them a prayer that ended with the words, “May peace prevail on Earth”.
Students also spoke with confidence about well-known emissaries of peace known through-out
the world. The people covered included Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa,
Martin Luther King Jr. and so on. As the students spoke there was a poerpoint presentation in
the background that was based on these personalities. Famous videos such as the march of
Mahatma Gandhi, Peace march of Martin Luther King Jr etc. The session was also graced by the
video recordings of Dr. Sreenivasan, Mrs. Geetha Sreenivasan and Dr. P C Thomas in which they
expressed their opinions and the importance of peace all over the world. Students then lit one
candle each and placed it around an image of a white dove, sealing their pledge to preserve
peace and live in harmony wherever they went.The world Peace Day celebration ended with a
peace march, as the students silently walked carrying placards and posters with words like
“Don’t let people pull you into their storm, Pull them into your peace”, and “The easiest way to
spread peace, is to SMILE.” A miniature version of the peace pole was given as mementos to
the Chief guests. It is hoped, that these tiny steps taken by the tiny tots lead us to a safer and
more peaceful future.
The event was also registered on the UN map.
